Oh, I needed to click on the link to figure out what "SSI" was. Now I understand.Aggie09Derek said:

Why is Big Red synonymous with Texas BBQ?
Because it is ****ing delicious with pickles and brisket (sour and salt maybe?).Objective Aggie said:
Had BBQ for lunch today and decided to give in to a Big Red, because I see it at every BBQ joint.

We go to Taos every year... Almost went there for lunch last year and was excited to try it this year. Thanks for saving me the trip.CDub06 said:
Jethro's in Taos... it wasn't good. Dirty smoke and the taste of creosote.
Asked for lean & moist brisket. Got lean & chopped...

Yalls pics were making me hungry so I went to Pinkerton's for lunch. First time, and I gotta say might be my favorite in the city right now. Still haven't been to corkscrew but what I had was better than roegel's and Killen's. Brisket super moist, ribs were cooked perfect.

Gonna get some Jethro's Texas Style Barbecue for lunch here in Taos. My expectations are tapered.
I got there a little after 12 and there were maybe 2 people in front of me. By the time I sat down with my food, the line had grown a lot and was out the door by the time I left.ChipFTAC01 said:
Been meaning to head over there. Any line? What time did you go?

That reminds me of a time I was visiting friends in Oregon and they wanted me to try Rattlesnake BBQ in Dexter, Oregon. Apparently it was a friend of a friend that ran it and he called it Texas Style.
After asking him questions, I found out the owner had never been to Texas and didn't take the time to visit any good BBQ places. He served his over cooked and dry brisket shredded...
When they asked me what I thought, I asked if he wanted honest feedback...I should've just said it was good but instead I told him the brisket was dry and I've never seen anyone serve it shredded. I told him he should visit a BBQ place in Texas before he tells everyone he had Texas style BBQ.
Dude just said ok and walked off with his head down. I'm honestly surprised he's still in business but it shows how terrible BBQ is in Oregon.

Crushed Cork for lunch today, hitting up Louie's on Saturday then coming back to the Tine for that TM Meat-Up.
Heart is gonna be hurting come Sunday.

I've had Louie's at every single Hou BBQ fest and it's always been rather good. My expectations were very high before my lunch visit this past weekend.
That was not the case on Saturday at his FSU in Taylor, TX. I hopped in line about 5 minutes before noon and didn't order until 2:00'ish. I never thought Gatlin's inefficient line could be beaten.
Overall grades:
- Moist brisket - B-
- BBQ Sauce - D as always. Crazy it's offered at HEB.
- Turkey - D for dry.
- Jap Sausage - B-
- Pulled pork - B+
- Pulled pork sauce - A+
- Beef rib - A+
- Potato salad - C
- Slaw - C+
- Nostalgic FSU - A++
I would not put Louie's in the top 10. They're more of Rudy's to me, but I'm happy I got my passport sticker so I never have to go back.
The Texas Monthly Meat-Up was a great event. Bodacious BBQ out of Longview served a burnt end on top of a Heath bar dipped in chocolate. Tits. Killen's served moist brisket while Cork went out of their norm and offered pork belly. Both were delicious. It was also nice to see Evie Mae's at a local event. Their diced brisket was on point.
Free beer and Gentlemen Jack in a climate controlled setting made for a nice event. Kudos to TM.
I agree with this. Unfortunately it's only been on about 2 of 10 trips for me.Quote:
Also, when Louie Muellers's is on, it is spectacular. It is just not always on.

At least you got the A+ Beef Rib, can be, in my opinion, the best in the state.
