Such a better cut of meat than brisket - it gives you more options.

Of course you pay for the bone - the restaurant pays for the bone. It's no different than pork ribs.

Just making sure. You wouldn't believe how many people complain about paying for the bone like it's some kind of racket.

I personally love the Bodacious on the list. The pitmaster is formerly from Stanley's in Tyler. Some of the best brisket I have had and I've ate at about 3/4 of this list in the last few years. If you go, whatever you do, go to the correct one as there are about 5 or so in the area. It is the one on Mobberly in South Loingview across from Letourneau University. The others are crap. If he has boudin when you go it's great as well. He did a Cabrito boudin a few weeks ago that was insane.

Anyone else going to Cattleack tomorrow? How long is the wait typically on Thursdays?
Pappa Charlies does beef rib burnt ends on tuesdays and they are magical. They charge some ridiculous amount for them but they are worth a try.AG 07 said:And you pay for the bone....agcrock2005 said:I don't get the beef rib craze...it's brisket on a stick!JR_83 said:
I need to go back and try the beef ribs and turkey.
I agree. I love Tejas. They do have a problem with consistency some days but overall their brisket is amazing. Pastrami on Thursday is really good and there are very few saturdays we arent there for breakfast tacos and micheladas. The carrot souffle and pinto beans are some of the best sides I've had and the pork belly is a staple (with or without the verdeque sauce). This is what they did for a seated coursed dinner on valentines day:CDub06 said:jja79 said:
Tejas Chocolate Factory is 6? BBQ must be dead. I work in Tomball and have given it a few tries. It's no better than Spring Creek. If you want to try it though you won't have to wait in line because there isn't one.
You wrong. Love me some Tejas.

So the print issue of TX monthly has a small BBQ pamphlet in the middle that is sponsored by yeti that has all the places, a map, and a checklist. Apparently the top 50 places will have stickers to give you if you ask when visiting and yeti will have prizes that you can redeem at their headquarters in Austin.
Visit all 50 places gets you a 45 qt cooler, visit all of the places with pitmasters trained by the mueller (5 locations) for a half gallon rambler jug, visit the 5 oldest joints on the list for a free 30oz tumbler, visit the two newest members for a few hat, and so on there are 10 total challenges.
Anybody gonna try them out and win some free stuff?

I highly doubt more than 100 people in the entire state will try to hit all 50 places up for a cooler, but there are far more simple ones. One of the challenges is to hit 5 places in Austin for a free T-shirt. Seeing as you have to redeem the booklet at their corporate headquarters in person which is also in Austin, that seems like an easy one for any one that lives in the Austin area.
I don't think very many people are going to go out of their way to do the challenges but if you are a BBQ nerd, snob, or whatever you call yourself (like I would think a lot of people on this thread) and are going to be hitting top 50 places up anyways, why not get some free stuff?
Here is the list so y'all can see the different challenges for yourself

Can't be that similar if it's great stuff...
