Gotta keep it looking like a crack house as long as possible. On the outside at least
on that wooden skirting around the outside...won't that stuff rot out really easily touching the ground like that? or are you going to dig out a little bit around the house to keep it clear?

It's wood trim on top of cement board.
I'm expecting issues long term with the bottom of the wood trim. (vertical pieces) and will probably cut them shorter once the final grading and planting is done around the house to keep them off the ground. Will paint the new cuts as well. It's not a long-term solution I suspect, but it was the cheapest route available that still looked decent.

Ah, that makes sense. If you stay on top of it I could see you getting a decade or more over in SA. By then you might be in a position to replace it with brick.

The 220 lines were run two days ago and I'm just waiting on the final install to be done inside. It should be up and running this coming week.
This weekend is all about getting ready for the drywall which should start next week as well.

But it is double what we were paying when we bought the first house.
P-bub. Congrats on A/C, I remember before we installed central in mine a few years ago and, while it was amazingly cooler than you would expect it to be on a 110 degree San Antonio day, I can't imagine not having it.

I don't miss the nearly $9K property tax bill back in SA. On the other hand it might've been less than property tax + state income tax is in SC.

Drywall should be done tomorrow I think, then tape/float and texture. HVAC should be finalized shortly after. It's been several years since I've not seen the wood walls and it's a bit of a shock.

This is my favorite thread on Texags. I have been following since the beginning and I still get excited when it pops up on my watchlist. Part of it is that I enjoy these rehab type threads, but I think it's more because I'm very familiar with where the house is and it nostalgic to me. Very cool thread and thanks for taking the time to keep it going!
