The closet was a later addition for sure. The closet, and the threshold/door to the dining room behind the this room were placed on top of the vinyl flooring in the living room. The closest was of a different type of wood, scraps it looks like, than the rest of the place.
The wood in the dining room continues under the vinyl, but I'm not sure how or when I'll try and get that up at this point. In fact the wood floors appear to run continuously under the walls as well. It's currently protecting the wood during construction. I'm estimating from the construction that the vinyl is pretty damn old.

It's been suggested I keep it for now, by people with better taste than I. Lightly sand the rough patches and add a layer of poly on top. It's a cool pattern, and I kind of like the idea, but am still undecided. Crack-head chic I guess. I'm also not sure on the asbestos content if it turns out to be newer than I suspect it is.
It's glued down VERY well. So it's going to take some effort to remove.
