The only explanations I have for what's happening are: fed printing and technical trading in the absence of fundamentals. I think we'll get a drop to at least 2400, but we'll see.

YES, we may not re test the lows for a few weeks. Or next week...but we are going to go back down at some point. The higher we re trace, the more violent the drop will be.

Yeah I'm going to go ahead and hope you don't see this happen...I wouldn't mind retesting down to the 20k level though for some buying opportunities

IMO, if we don't retest lows by 4/24, I don't think we'll go that low again.

For those of you using Straddles or Strangles, how long are you waiting to determine market direction?
I sold my calls 30 minutes into day, and missed some big gains today.

Just heard this is supposed to be me.

Please get stars and PM me what you think my political views are. It's hilarious how wrong everyone is when I ask them to do this.

What are you using for coming up with that time frame? Or just gut feeling?

I do think there's going to be a lot of people who miss out on buying low, but I feel like the timeline is longer. Just a gut feeling for me though.

The last 2 Thursday new unemployment numbers were abysmal and the market didn't selloff. The 4/24 date takes in the next three and the beginning of earnings season. The unemployment numbers will be bad, as well guidance from the companies that report between now and then. If those 2 factors don't drive us back to retest the lows, then the market has already anticipated all the bad news and is focusing on what comes next. JMO

What comes next is Q2 Earnings.

Then, Q3 Earnings.

I was encouraged to read an article on Barrons today that told me we're back in the Bull Market.

See I disagree. I think the higher we go and the longer it takes to "re-test", the "higher" the re-test will be.

Time is the fix to our issue. Time to flatten the curve, time to find vaccination/therapeutic solutions and time to re-start the economy. The longer we linger grinding up, the lower the probability that we go down to the 220 SPY levels.

It depends. I use them to supplement an underlying long position in the SPY, and I like to buy them a few days out. In this market where I'm paying a premium for volatility I actually like to write out of the money options in the direction and put in an order to close them out at or near max profit.

OA calling it again???

Quote:

Youn guys also know that strategy of buying out of the money calls as a potential pivot point. I bought DIS April 17 $115 calls just in case it happens. $0.42 against dollars of gains per call option is a no brainer.

Quote:

Give this man a CEEEE-GAR

Now take 5% of whatever profits you made and buy DIS Apr 17th $115's for $0.35 (no more than this) as your fun money opportunity trade.

I'm not touching weekly on DIS again

Going to admit i didn't sell my late morning SDOW when I should have today and took a little loss. My gut tells me, where we are now, to keep it for Thursday.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/2020/04/08/thursdays-unemployment-claims-could-match-last-weeks-66-million/#68ed29425fcf

Projected between 6 and 6.6 million again tomorrow. April unemployment projected to be at least 17% once the next two weeks of data (not including tomorrow) are in the system. March was 4.4%

Keep SDOW or average down with more this week and ride it up the second half of April.

Clorox.

Zero downside and some upside, given the short window you've addressed for a buy and hold strategy.

Zero downside? Beg to differ. Once pandemic subsides, id bet this retreats.
