In short, we either need Italy to win or Mexico to score 5+ runs tonight
I'm tired of hearing how this is the most stacked roster ever when much of the pitching staff is very average and then you have other guys playing last night who had a hard time getting contracts in 2026.
Hopefully Aaron Nola (for Italy) is off tonight. I think we stand a better chance of Mexico scoring 5+ than Italy winning the game.
And if we advance, the most likely spot is runner up which puts us against japan in the semis…if we get there

What an embarrassment. From the horrendous hats and uniforms to Judge's awful leadership right on down to the manager not knowing we weren't locked in and the team deciding to party balls all night after the Mexico game.

Thank god we scored the late inning runs or there would be a lot fewer red white and blue flags and a whole lot more red white and green flags on that chart. How DeRosa didn't know the rules on advancing is unfathomable.
Glad i only paid $8 to watch that turd of a game last night.

I bought tickets to that one b/c I thought they were the 2nd best team in the pool. You are right about the lineup. Goldy over Harper is the only that was clearly a downgrade.

Will Smith is good, and Cal Raleigh hasn't been great so far but that is a pretty big downgrade. At least ceiling wise.

Absolutely agree 100%. But still, not putting the strongest lineup on the field because he was wrong about us having punched our ticket to the next round is ridiculous.
So if Mexico is winning something like 3-2 in the 8th inning, do they and Italy agree to not score again and both advance and totally **** the US?
Fox and MLB will do all they can to help the US advance.

If Derosa thinks he's getting scorched now, it won't be nothing compared to if we don't advance.
Took my 10-year old son to the game last night and I gotta say that even though the outcome wasn't what we wanted, it was still an incredible atmosphere. Really fun game to watch with 6 HRs and it coming down to the wire at the end. Riley even got himself a foul ball to add to his sports memorabilia collection.
The best was Bob Ford leaning into the full Italian pronunciation of Jac Caglianone last night.
It would be worse than the Team USA Olympic basketball failure(s).

It got more exaggerated every time up.
So, if Italy scores 4 or more runs, or Mexico scores 5 or more runs, we are in regardless of the outcome. Only way we are not in is if Mexico wins and scores less than 5 runs.
Mexico announced they are starting with Assad today. The best-case scenario is that both he and Nola get lit up in the 1st and we can relax and enjoy a competitive ballgame.
Is it a run total that's needed?
