Pitching wasn't the problem. You can't take a million pitches right down the middle and the swing for the downs every single pitch

Agree. From the very first pitch they came out wanting to win and we came out trying to execute a game plan. The end result was close in score but I don't think anyone ever thought we had control or were the better team all game. Harper's hr was a gift. But we kept watching piped pitches while they kept swinging away at them.

Baseball needs to take a page from the Hockey playbook and what ever happens , happens. There are lots of teams, the Stars included since it's my team, that got players hurt during the Olympics. Commit completely or don't play at all.

This is the problem- not all the best players were out there because teams or their insurance carriers wouldn't commit- but same applied to Venezuela, they had players that teams wouldn't let play like Altuve.

Mason Miller was only available for a save situation due to the Padres organization restricting him.

Mason Miller or any pitcher for that matter wasn't going to step up to the plate and get a clutch hit. Pitching wasn't the problem last night.

It certainly seems after hearing many player's comments throughout the WBC that the Latin Americans really value this WBC stage. I can understand how an American player can value it less also, with the main 162 game season about to start up in their home country.
It would also be interesting to understand the kind of preparation that happened before the tournament for a team like Venezuela vs USA, since this is really still spring training. Were the Venezuelan players all together for much of the offseason? Just curious more than anything.
I don't think we can even get to the point of being critical of teams restricting pitchers when the offense was as bad as it was. And the other teams with MLB players also had to deal with the same restrictions. Hell, Altuve couldn't even play for Venezuela because he broke his hand last time.

many keep saying the best team ever assembled… really??… byron buxton??… bryce turang?.. maybe others declined, but i can easily think of 20+ other OFers who would have been better than buxton
One and done baseball doesn't really exist at any level. It' way too random. This tournament was super fun and a great way to enjoy 10 days in March.
