Tiebreaker is based on earned runs

This is what happens when we try to make sure everyone gets to play.
The US is almost assuredly eliminated after this showing, and they pretty well deserve it. What an embarrassment.
If the USA loses this game, and then Mexico beats Italy as expected, the tiebreaker is runs allowed.

USA is in SERIOUS danger of losing that tiebreaker and being eliminated from the World Baseball Classic in the Group Stage.
They need to rally and win this game. #WBC

Well…not assuredly….we're going to have to root like hell for italy tomorrow

Update: Not looking like USA will win although there is still time.

More importantly, they need to hold Italy to 5-6 runs max, and score some runs of their own, to create more scenarios where they get through on a tiebreaker.
They need Italy to score some runs tomorrow vs MEX.
USA gets a run! Now 8-1.

If they can score a few runs, they have a third way in: Mexico scoring a ton vs Italy and getting Italy to 11+ runs allowed (assuming we don't give up more runs here).
But will Mexico keep trying to score with a big lead if it helps USA?
They keep saying on the broadcast that this is shocking. Team USA threw a rookie pitcher and Ryan Yarborough who throws 88 mph.

I’m not shocked.
