Yeah, I don't get the player's angle here. They are getting the minimum salaries they want, they are getting pre arb bonus pool that is a huge chunk, and the luxury tax threshold only impacts a couple of teams. They are about to stupidly miss paychecks they'll never recover

Nearly 100 days in and the sport is going to be severely damaged with everyday that goes by. The NFL is taking advantage by pretty much being a 12 month sport now a days with the draft, combine, free agency, and other stuff.

Lots of people are saying Kershaw. (When I say lots of people, I'm talking about the media.) Not sure about this unless we get a good discount with some kind of performance incentives. He's only 33 (?) But he's got some mileage on the arm.

Is Sonny Gray still available? That would require a trade and IKF was rumored to be part of the deal. With Jung out, I'm not sure we can spare IKF. Maybe Wendzel is ready. Also Ibanez has shown some promise at least as a placeholder.

2. 1B

Everyone wants Olson. I'm good with that. We'd give up Lowe for Olson's power.

3. OF

Nick Castellanos is who I want. I wanted him when he signed with Cincy. We weren't shelling out the $$ at the time. Let's go get him.

I did not buy OD tickets as I had no faith that the game would be played. I'll go third-party like normal. Don't like it but it will be OK. Thanks for all you do!

Astros probably voted no because of the shift being banned. I think the shift is lame and not how baseball was intended to be played so good riddance.

Who do we give up for Olson?

What do you think a package of:

Nick Solak (2B)
Nathaniel Lowe (1B)
Sam Huff (C/1B?) - #5 on prospect list and MLB ready (according to mlb.com timeline)
Justin Foscue (2B) - #4 on prospect list (AA)

I honestly have no idea and am throwing crap against the wall to see if it will stick, but we have some prospect capital to leverage since we have our middle infield lined out for the next 5 years at least. 4 of our top 10 prospects are middle infielders.

I'm sure everyone agrees that our top 3 are untouchable right now:

1. Jack Leiter (SP and potential future ace? in the next 2-4 years?)
2. Josh Jung (3B and starter in the next 1-2 years?)
3. Cole Winn (SP and potential future #2 or #3 in the next 1-2 years?)

Or do you think it will take IKF instead of Solak to get Olson and then we just bring up Jung and hope and pray he settles in at the start of this year?

Jung is out for at least 6 months with a torn labrum, he had surgery on Feb 23. Not sure we can let IKF go with that in mind. We do have Ibanez that could hold down 3B until Jung is ready.

Also, not sure we would give up that much for Olson. He has two years left until UFA. I'd give up Solak or Lowe and a minor league prospect or two. Keep Huff and use the remaining of Solak or Lowe to bolster the SP spot. Might get a 3 or 4 for one of them and some prospects.

What would we be willing to give up for Sonny Gray or another TOR SP?

I don't think the Rangers are in a win now position but we need to bring in some talent to get us to a win now position when some of our young SP are ready.

I think that's a fair offer as hopefully we can keep Huff if we think he'll continue to develop and be our future starting catcher.

It sounds like the Rangers aren't likely to make the move unless they're confident they can get an extension done.

At least it feels like we're actually trying to build for something and have a plan. Midway through last year it felt like we were in a hopefully win in 5-7 years type of plan and maybe get lucky along the way with a decent run. Main word being hope as it didn't really feel like we had an actual plan.

Now it feels like a "let's set up now to win in 2-3 years". And that's not a "we're gonna suck for the next two years and make a run at the playoffs in 3". It's a "Let's get in the playoffs the next 1-2 years, and plan to make a deep run in 3".

With the restocking of our farm system the past year and a half and the free agent signings so far this winter, I have to give Chris Young an A- so far. A+ if we get Olson and Kershaw.

With our first game being April 8th in Toronto, this will be interesting to see who can play for us. Unless Canada changes their policy, this could be quite the homefield advantage for the Jays depending on what players aren't vaccinated.

I agree. I think we are making moves to set up for a playoff run in the next few years. I'm optimistic with our farm system and some of the moves we've made and the money we've spent that we'll be good in the next few years.

Rangers need IKF and I think the Yankees will want someone with more controllable years
