Man if it really comes down to 2 years vs 4 years. The rangers need to bite the bullet and give him 2 more years. We can find a place for his bat for the next 4 years.

This move would send fan excitement through the roof.

Meanwhile…….. MLB network did a top 10 catchers list tonight and Mitch garver came in at #6. We definitely upgraded that position big time.

I just can't fathom why Story would come here, not when factoring in the other teams that are in the mix. Definitely not against by any means. Just having trouble wrapping my head around the possibility. Good on CY and JD if they pull it off

Except he's not looking for a 2 year deal is he?

I was going off the "club wants 2 Story wants 4" line. I meant ideally I would want him on a 2 year deal

Make it happen and let's contend for the West this year. Add another pitcher to the mix as well. Leiter won't be in the minors long. Hell I hope he's on the rotation before the all star break. You know he could probably crack this rotation now.

Fun watching the Houston sunshine fans bagging on Correa.

Classic Houston fans. I'm honestly surprised they didn't bash JJ Watt when he left. Houston is a **** hole.

Bond is a pretty funny dude though. I'm sure his comments are tongue in cheek. But yeah…by and large they're pretty garbage. Lol

I'm thinking that the roster we currently have is pretty much going to be the roster we go with, other than a few minor pick-ups (reclamation projects, 1 year flyers, etc.).

Not a championship team, but a hell of a lot better product than they put on the field last year.

Yeah, with the length of the big signings, I feel like this is a good point to stop and figure out exactly what they are in 2022 and what they really need to take another step forward. Then come back via trades or FA next year to take the next steps.

Agree, but how obvious is that we need starting and relief pitching? It should be priory #1 next off-season or maybe before the All Star break if we are within 5-6 games of the AL West leader.

Totally agree. I think I posted earlier that I believe this year is about shoring up the offense and continuing the develop of the young pitching staff. Then next year the window opens for our run

We have a lot of good young arms. Since FA SP costs $$$$$, it is prudent to see how many of them rise to the top this season. Time to find out whether these guys are as good as they can be - Allard, Otto, Dunning, Heard, Howard.

From an Astros fan and overall baseball fan, looking at your team, there's a lot to get excited about.

The Rangers aren't there yet. You still need pitching, but your offense is going to be exciting. Seager and Semien will provide extra pop. Lowe and Adolis Garcia are players who help provide a nice young core.

When your pitching from the minors is ready, y'all will be ready to make a run. I think the Rangers are about two years away from the playoffs, but each game the next couple seasons will be a fun watch.

Pitchers these days seem to have shorter windows of peaking and then they are on to the next TJ surgery, etc. While this team is much better, 2023-2026 is the more realistic window. It will also allow the young pitchers to develop and let the Rangers really assess what they've got to figure out what they need. If they see a legit contending opportunity, then maybe you so something at the trade deadline. But it would need to be for a guy under several years of control. I think that's highly unlikely. Those aren't usually the guys getting dealt

I think the time in NOW! I always think the time is NOW!

I am more optimistic about the Rangers this season, than in a long time.

I think we project to $132M for the season. I think the Rangers had budgeted a bit more.

If we can stay in the hunt and pickup a SP at the deadline, we might see some of the young guys step up. It would give the Ps a chance for high-leverage situations so that going into 2023 we'd know more about where we are.

MLB.com posted a update to the top 100 a couple days ago, Rangers have 5:

Rangers (5)
17. Jack Leiter, RHP (ETA: 2023)
29. Josh Jung, 3B (ETA: 2022)
48. Cole Winn, RHP (ETA: 2022)
83. Ezequiel Duran, INF (ETA: 2023)
89. Justin Foscue, 2B (ETA: 2023)
Though the Rangers invested $500 million in Corey Seager and Marcus Semien this offseason, they also have plenty of infield help on the way in Jung, Duran, Foscue and others. Their pitching outlook is trending up with the addition of Leiter (the No. 2 overall pick last July) and the development of Winn (No. 15 in 2018).

We need an outfield stud in the majors and the minors. Seems like the left field position always sucks since Hamilton left.

This is where actually signing FAs builds your farm team. Solak now could be a LF and Duran and Foscue are trade options.

Still hoping Taveras develops.

I'd like to see Leiter get around 120-130 IP. Bring him along slowly.

If we are in the hunt come ASB time, you've got Leiter as a callup and Solak/Duran/Foscue as guys who might bring additional pitching.

Questions being answered:

People asking why Huff @ AAA and no as backup. Probably to get more ABs and to work on specific SPs.

Also saw this on the Rangers' MLB site:

03/21/22 RHP Cole Winn assigned to Texas Rangers.

I think I'd much rather see him than Allard or Hearn.

So one question I haven't had time to look into - has the time in service rules changed under the new CBA?

Used to be a rookie NEVER broke camp since they wanted to short him a year of service towards free agency. If that rule has been altered, then he'll yeah I'd like to see Winn on OD roster.

EDIT: Hearn throws too hard to not be given a good long look.

I thought there was rule changes coming and saw many scenarios. i don't know what was final.

My guess is, Hearn will be in the rotation, at least to start the season.

He is 1st year Arb this year (whatever that means now) and at a minimum ends up a reliever. The problem I see with him is too many BBs. The harder he throws... the more Ks he gets, but also the more BBs he gets.

The rookie service rules have been adjusted in several ways to incent teams to bring guys up. One of them is draft pick incentives for rookies you have on your roster day 1 and finish near the top of ROY voting (maybe top 3-5?)

Here's what I found regarding service time manipulation - have a guy on your OD roster and he performs really well and you get a lot of stuff.

Quote:

The top two players in Rookie of the Year voting must receive at least a full year of service time, regardless of when they were called up.

Teams that promote a player to the opening day roster and keep him up for a full season will be eligible to receive up to three draft picks if the player finishes in the Top 3 in the Rookie of the Year voting or Top 5 in MVP/Cy Young voting before he is eligible for arbitration.

A player may be optioned to the minors no more than five times in one season

That's quite a return.

I'm thinking it could push out the old retreads in favor of promising youngsters. If you are shooting for Garcia, Leiter or Winn could be candidates, if not this year.... certainly next year. It could also disincentivize you to bring them up this year.

AL Results from 2021:

Arihara sure is shaping up to be a failed experiment. Not even sure he makes the OD roster at this point. He's only owed about $3 MM for just this coming year.
