It's a fantasy article, but I don't have a problem with it. He's a 29 year old pitcher, not someone you are building your team around. I hope he has a phenomenal year...and then we trade him in 2 months!

MAn what does everyone have against Bogey? He hasn't been the most consistent but who has other than Lowrie and Altuve? The guy brings good D, decent hitting, and good plate discipline. His powers numbers are bound to improve and Im betting they will.

First of all Im sick of mills and that freaking nickname. Second of all he is pushing 30 and isn't going to get much better IMO

Much better than what? The underachieving so far this year or his production from last year? He can definitely do better than what he has shown so far this year. They were talking the other night about how we have a very high winning record in games Bogey has played in compared to games he hasn't. While he might not have the upside of a Springer, someone like Bogey when he is playing consistently can be better than the average outfielder.

This article has me excited for the upcoming draft. A high school prospect might be a gamble, but he sounds legitimate.

Tough decision for the Astros. I think I would go pitcher. Buxton sounds great but there are plenty of fast guys with no power in the league whereas pitching is of the utmost importance.

Holy crap.. I knew we had plenty of money going forward.. but we have more than I thought.

from MLB trade rumors
quote:
2013 Payroll Obligation

The Astros are spending approximately $61MM on payroll in 2012, their first season under owner Jim Crane and GM Jeff Luhnow. They only have $17MM in commitments for 2013, according to Cot's Baseball Contracts. Expect Luhnow to have more payroll flexibility than he did last offseason when he transitions the team to the American League next winter.

So 17MM and we are expected to resign Norris, Happ, Lopez, Johnson, Lowrie, and possibly Buck. Even if we bring Carlos back at a fraction of his current salary, I dont see us spending more than 32MM next year.

Also interesting, we signed Armando Gallaraga who is 30 and is the guy Jim Joyce screwed out of a perfect game. Apparently he is taking the place of Sosa who has agreed to play in Korea.
Mr.Bond

I can't believe Sosa agreed to Korea. Wow

Crane announced today that the Astros will be going back to the old orange and blue next year.

Adam Lind is on waivers. Is there any downside to picking him up?

Dierker has already hinted that they are going to be a take on the jerseys they are wearing on flash back Fridays right now. Dierker immediately got quiet like he wasn't supposed to say anything, mentioned he would probably get in trouble for hinting that, then changed the subject.

Here's my projected 2014 Lineup:

1. Jordan Schafer, CF, 27
2. Jose Altuve, 2B, 23
3. Jon Singleton, 1B, 22
4. JD Martinez, LF, 26
5. Jed Lowrie, SS, 30
6. George Springer, RF, 24
7. Chris Johnson, 3B, 29
8. Free Agent/Telvin Nash/
9. Jason Castro, C, 26

Rotation

Bud Norris, 29

Lucas Harrell, 28
Jarred Cosart, 23
J.A. Happ (?), 31
Kyle Weiland, 27

Nick Tropeano, 23
Wes Musick, 28
Brett Oberholtzer, 25
Paul Clemens, 26

That's a lot of young potential MLBers...

Plus what we draft at 1.1 and get in trades for Brett, Wandy, and J.A. Happ!

Edited: I put "2012" lineup, but I meant "2014." Plus, the ages on the right will be the player's age in 2014.

Is this the September 2012 lineup or did you mean 2013?

I wouldn't be surprised if we resigned Carlos to be our DH next year if he agrees to a contract that's significantly less than the one he has right now. I just get the feeling that Carlos wants to stay in Houston with his ranch close. Just speculation though

Agree 100%. If we can get him around 5-8 million why not.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
We really dont have anyone that we could even call a DH next year. Too many of the OF in the minors are sub-par batters.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I want his lazy attitude gone. 5-8 million to keep that around if not worth it when that spot could go to a young guy or a chapter guy willing to work harder.

I agree he has been a bust of a contract but you haven't truly been watching this year if that's still your attitude. He has been hustling (believe it or not) been a solid 1st baseman and a great locker room figure from what I've read Take it fwiw

These last couple games give me hope that JD may be pulling out of his awful slump. Fingers crossed

Wtf is Lyon doing in a close game

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Brandon Lyon has been pretty good in the pen has he not? 1.76 ERA on the year through 15+ innings

This is a game log of one of our relievers, see if you can guess who it is...

JD looks so much better tonight. Not trying to pull the ball. just punching it out to right. Love it.

Maybe I'm a little too optimistic, but I think if/when JDM gets going this team will win more games and the team will finish closer to .500

And Carlos scored from 2nd!

Yes. It is Brandon Lyon.

In his last 8.1 innings:

0 BBs
4 Hits allowed

I agree. I think JD is the key to producing runs consistently. A guy in the middle of the lineup that will get on base, work counts, and provide power is huge.
