That's what you get for trusting the French to win a big battle.

Wemby with the choke job…and then the coach calls the worst play ever for a 7'4" player. Why wouldn't you give it to him down low?

The '26 Spurs have a lot of the '86 Rockets in them. Phenomenal young center - Wemby/Dream, took the big step up early and KO'ed the defending champs in the WCF, and then totally overmatched (so far) in the Finals by a much more complete team.

The trap that is easy for fans to fall into is thinking that this is just the start of a team's rise to perennial Finals contender. Certainly didn't happen for the Rockets, who lost Lucas, Lloyd, and Wiggins to drug suspensions the next year, and Sampson getting hurt and never recovering.

At the end of the '88 season, just 2 years removed from their WC championship, the Rockets' roster only retained Hakeem, Rodney McCray, Jim Petersen, Robert Reid, Allen Leavell, and Steve Harris from the run to the Finals.
