I actually think it's a net positive deal for the Rockets cause they shed Paul's crappy contract. They didn't give up much especially if they have a better record than OKC a few years from now.

Westbrook just had a historically bad shooting season and has a longer contract than Paul did.

Now it's just a rockets/spurs pissing match in the off-season thread. I'm in the camp of it not working out since they both need the ball in their hands

And unlike Chris Paul - Westbrook and Harden have both showed they greatly care about getting their numbers.

So there is 100% chance that CP3 gets traded again right? This makes zero sense for OKC other than controlling the rockets draft for 4 years. I guess the rockets think Westbrook is that much better.... however he doesnt fit with Dantoni at all.

Westbrook without Harden could average like 45/20/15 in DAntoni's system.

It will be interesting to watch, that's for sure. Westbrook and Harden have both shown they are guys that have to get their numbers like no one else in the NBA, so if they will have to sacrifice that at all to coexist will be worth watching.

Gotta think Paul gets traded again. No rings and he wants to be the GOAT PG. He just won't ever get there. No one will want that ****ty 3y/125mm and I don't think he takes any of the best teams and makes them a title contender. Lakers are probably the closest but other than Bron/AD, they don't have assets to match his salary.

Who's gonna take on CP3's contract? He's got too many years remaining, for too much money, and he's too old for teams to give up serious assets for him. Plus if he's traded now teams will have to match salaries. So who has a bloated contract that is willing to take on Paul's bloated contract?

Back to our own team here:

I don't expect much from Lyles, so I won't be disappointed if he does nothing but sit on the end of the bench and play mop up duty. I was very excited for the potential fit that Morris would be, but I don't think we're any worse off if we had never traded Bertans. I think Bertans was on his way out of the rotation because: he's not strong enough to defend bigs, he's not quick enough to guard wings, and he's a terrible rebounder. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Davis and he busted his ass, but he was so limited that I think Pop was looking to move on.

Now, trying to have a little bit of optimism about Lyles. First off, he's still only 23. He could still have some untapped potential at such a young age. As soup pointed out, in the 17-18 season he was very productive and shot the ball very well. He had a huge dip in his shooting percentages this last season, however he still shot 40% from the corner. I think working with Chip could hopefully get him right and he could be a solid floor spacer again. Lyles is a solid rebounder. He's not elite, but he's waaay better than Davis was. I haven't watched enough nuggets games to know what kind of defender Lyles is, but he's built much more like a traditional PF, so in theory he shouldn't get rag dolled around by Paul Milsap. And if he does continue to suck it up, he's on a cheap 2 year deal (partially guaranteed 2nd year) that we could move or just cut him loose.

I really wanted Davis to work out, he had a couple of elite offensive skills. Quick release shooting threes in a variety of situations (his footwork was great) and quick decision making, plus sneaky athleticism and willingness to risk getting dunked on, but his defense never made it. Not strong enough for fours, not quick enough for threes.

I think DeMarre Carroll was a fantastic pickup. Exactly what we needed. Hopefully Lyles works out, too. And we figure out how to ditch one of our undersized combo guards.

Who is the moderator of this board? I'm guessing they wont say specifically. This board has always been ran differently than all of the other boards. I have 10 bucks that says the moderator is from Houston or is a big Houston fan

As I said in the Houston thread, you know, because it involved HOUSTON

They just allowed another Western conference franchise to have 8 first round picks in a short-ish amount of time.

So if OKC plays their cards right. They could have a starting 5, of all young 1st rounders with another 3, young 1st rounders coming off the bench

With that said...

Mr Moderator. Please delete any and all comments that may come from Houston fans

This board, for years, has had the worst moderation of all forums on TexAgs. It's not even close. The Rockets homerism by the mod has consistently been over the top. With the low traffic, hard to believe Brandon cares much about this forum.

And this is coming from a frequent visitor of the politics board.

For some reason, they saw fit to let a handful of posters dictate the rules of the board.

While Texags as a whole has increased significantly, the NBA board has decreased significantly in activity.

The number of Mavericks and, to a lesser extent, Spurs fans has dropped quite a bit. With the mavs being terrible and The Spurs not being the same kind of contenders, there's quite a few posters that used to come around a lot more that don't anymore.

A large reason a lot of posters don't come around anymore is because of the board's moderation.

I wasn't around much in those days but from what I gathered any hint of negative Rocket trash talk would result in a ban. Warnings were put on the Rockets thread that basically said anyone posting on the thread that wasn't a Rockets fan could get a suspension. It was very apparent that it was one sided and only favored the Rockets.

I agree with trying to clean up trash talk on the individual team threads. If anyone is here just to stir it up then good riddance.

Fun to remember the dominance of the 2014 "Beautiful Game" team, but this really puts into perspective the job Carlisle did.

If that's all we get for him then we are better off keeping him. For all of his faults, DeMar is our best creator/scorer. If we lose that then I don't think we make the playoffs. I'm also not so sure of that source. Ross from Legion Hoops isn't exactly Woj.

The thing that is interesting is that DeMar has a player option after next season in a weak FA class. He could likely get a big pay day. We haven't heard anything about an extension. So if the Spurs don't see him in the long term plans maybe a trade would happen. But you definitely need to get something good for him. Especially since he was the center piece for the trade with Dennis's nephew.

It's not a super credible source, but the timing of it makes sense. Teams that didn't land big time guys have seen how it's all shaken out and may be looking to add someone to put them into the next step. A team like Orlando would make sense as having interest. They lack any real perimeter go to guy, have a solid young core to build around a guy, and Demar would be good enough to make sure the magic are higher than an 8 seed in the east. Trouble is they don't really have anything in return. I imagine they'd be willing to trade Aaron Gordon but he's very meh. Super athlete, but doesn't really have any perimeter skills. Maybe if they offered up enough draft picks it'd be worth it.

With all of the parity now in the league, unless we get someone like Beal, I think we should stand pat and gun for the playoffs this year. If the Spurs are interested in keeping him after this season I'm sure DeRozan would give us a chance to keep him. If not, hopefully White/Murray/Lonnie have developed into something that could fill his shoes if he left. To me this is one of the rare cases where I think it's worth to see how things play out, even if we lose him for nothing.

Apparently the three teams (according to some NBA guy named Khris Johnson) that have called about DeMar are Chicago, Orlando, and Detroit.

The wife and I were at game 3 where Vince Carter hit that last second shot.

After Vince Hit that shot and everyone was filing out 3 different Mavs fans tried to pick fights with me. It was the last straw in a series of Spurs/Mavs games in Dallas that made us say we'll never go back to watch a game there as Spurs fans.

Once we got out of the arena and were walking to the car, two other different groups of Mavs fans were all talking about their calendars for June to make sure they could attend the Finals when they inevitably made it.

Wouldn't want any of Detroit's trash.

If you could get Otto Porter Jr out of Chicago or Fournier out of Orlando, that would round out the Spurs team with a really solid SF.
