Thad Young off the board to Chicago. Got more than we could have given him. Some of the contracts these guys are getting are ridiculous. Hopefully we don't get prices out of a solid player for the MLE.

Terry Rozier set to make almost $20MM a year from Charlotte for the next three years. That's hilarious.
Meanwhile Derrick Rose (18/4 last year) went for 2y/15mm

Ariza off the board. Just got 2 $25 from Sacramento. Really thought he's take a little less to play for a team that will at least make the playoffs...

And Aminu is gone. 3 $29 to Orlando. That one stings.

Maybe PATFO was unwilling to do more than 2 years?

Maybe when Pop found out he was from the Georgia near Florida and not the Georgia near the Black Sea, he pulled back.

Wasn't he born in Nigeria? He'd fit right in.

Wasn't gonna happen without trading Demar (most likely).

Not a lot left. Burks, Danny Green, JaMichal Green? Kind of lukewarm on the leftovers.

Favors also an option if he is released. Not sure we really need a PF though.

A PF is fine if he's able to guard wings. Marcus Morris would fit this description.

Morris would be a great pick up. He had an excellent year.

At this point if we haven't signed anyone it seems like we will have to wait for Kawhi to choose. Then those FAs remaining will wait to see if they can get more than the MLE from teams with cap space. Spurs could very well choose not to use it as well.

Could have done worse. Needed a SF/PF, so it works. Terrible midrange shooter, career 39% from corner.

Meh. It's a decent pickup. Upgrade over Cunningham and Pondexter. Probably just an insurance guy whose personality fits well. Will be good for our young guys.
West Texan

It's a solid pickup and only a two year deal. Can play the 3 and 4, solid defender, good rebounder, and a career 36% from 3 so he's not a complete black hole on offense. Not as exciting as Aminu or Thad Young might have been, but a lot better than getting stuck with Stanley Johnson.

He's been to the conference finals twice and didn't crumble so at least he's got playoff experience on good teams too. Something Rudy has never had and a mental handicap I think he still has.

Since The Spurs are done with free agency (barring a trade), we can all focus on the Utah summer league starting tonight at 6 on NBAtv and ESPN 3. Really looking forward to seeing Lonnie Walker and how he has developed.

No surprise but out of our rookies, Weatherspoon looks most NBA ready at this point.

Spurs beat Cleveland 97-89. Like any summer league game, it was super sloppy, but I saw a lot of good things.

Lonnie was clearly the best player on the floor, which is what he should be. 20 points and 7 boards, got into the paint with ease and finished or drew a foul every time. His jumper looks much better, going 8/12 and hitting several pull up jumpers off the dribble. He was 0/2 from 3, with a pull up and a catch and shoot, so gotta work on that but that's a very small sample size. His defense was much better than it was last year. He fought over/under screens rather than getting caught up in them and he didn't get lost off the ball or on switches. Did have 3 turnovers and only 2 assist, so gotta keep working on his play making.

Luka Samanic had a solid game. Started real slow, but got it going in the second half and finished with 11 points 7 boards and 2 blocks. He's way more athletic than he looks! Took his defender off the dribble and got the hole multiple times, jumps really well going for blocks and rebounds, moved his feet and contested on switches on defense. He made his only 3 point attempt, a catch and shoot from the left wing, but the form looks great. He has to put on muscle to be able to play in the NBA, has trouble finishing several times because he couldn't fight through the contact. He did try to dunk on two dudes, so I love the fearlessness.

Keldon Johnson had a quiet night with 4 point 2 rebounds and a steal. He didn't get a chance to shoot any 3s, but he did attack close outs and showed some potential to have some slashing ability. He played some really solid, smart defense in spurts. He's young, so he's got a lot to learn, but during possessions he's play really well for the first part of the action then get lost once the ball was passed around a couple times. Tough on a young player and he was guarding Dylan Windler, who was by far Cleveland's best player. But, he didn't foul and he moves his feet well and competes.

Quinndary Weatherspoon looked very good, especially early tonight. 13 points on 5/8 shooting 1/2 from 3, a couple boards, a couple assists, and he looked very comfortable out there. His age and more time playing at a high level definitely benefitted him. He moved constantly on offense, cutting, spacing, attacking with the ball. He made some really nice passes and saw some openings, but wasn't able to complete the play, which led to 4 turnovers. I was disappointed in his defense, he wasn't awful, but he picked up 4 fouls and gambled a couple times when he shouldn't have. I think he'll be a solid two way player that I'd like to get a lot of minutes playing PG in Austin this season.

It was a solid first outing overall. We'll play again tomorrow at 6.

I thought all 3 rookies showed something. I doubt any of them this season but you never know. Luka has some nice skill and mobility for his size, as advertised. He could develop into something special. Keldon seems to have some good defensive instincts. Good size. He didn't shoot the ball at all but he got to the line quite a bit. Quindarry showed some nice skill and defensive ability as well.

I thought they all played well for the first time out. I thought Luka was trying too hard in the beginning but when he puts on a little muscle he should be a pretty good NBA player. As somebody said earlier he is just too skinny right now. The problem is the Spurs don't have a spot for all 3 on the roster. Quindarry might be a good candidate for the 2-way contract.
