I'm not a fan because he combines bad play with acting really entitled… BUT…

Amad has played pretty well when Antony has played wing back. And it's not just the hat trick game. That said, I haven't changed my mind, I hope he goes.

I don't have a problem with only giving Baleba a yellow under the circumstances but there have been at least a few other yellows that should've been doled out. That Mitoma pullback on Amad was a clear yellow.

That was an insane ball and absurd by Mitoma to get his foot on that. Even if he doesn't, I don't see how Mazraoui would have avoided an OG.

I don't think anyone here has said that Onana isn't prone to making insanely stupid mistakes. So I'm not sure who this "no one wants to admit they're wrong" is.

Who had a better career than Meola. I just don't get the fascination with Meola. If you want to cite a player's opinion, I think Scholes has been pretty critical. Meola is a real rando.

Meola was an actual keeper. He had a really solid career. But more importantly he is a really good analyst. (Not a really a fan of his match commentating)

The point is how so much focus has been put on keepers playing with their feet. No matter how much the game changes a keepers number 1 job will always be stopping goals. Quite literally everything comes secondary to that. Onana is not a goal stopper.


He relies on anticipation too much. Lacks that natural instinct. Plus his in goal footwork is not great.

FWIW, my opinion at the time was I wanted to stick with de Gea but decrease his wage, which was way too high (common problem). And 50M for Onana was WAY too much. (If I'm mid-remembering the fee, my bad). Onana can have amazing games, but he's not consistent. When he's bad he's terrible.

I thought it was time for DDG to go. To me looked like he had lost confidence. Ultimately it seems pretty clear ETH was too focused on signing players he knew.

And you are correct Onana's fee was nearly 50mm pounds.

Well, here's the deal: all goalkeepers look kind of bad when they are bad. So if you are waiting around for the perfect keeper, it's probably not going to happen. Alison might be the exception, pains me to say; Courtois has been fairly consistent, but he can have bad games too.
