VAR is dumb, when it's that close it should just stand (and I'm not a spurs fan).

That being said you can be offside on a backwards pass according to my googling so that seems to be a moot point

Kane's knee and left hand is the red line and the blue line is the front most portion of the ball according to the after show people the offside technology can tell that with accuracy. Apparently doesn't matter than it goes backwards and deflects off of a defender.

Honestly unsure how they can feel confident enough in the positioning to over turn that.

Yeah that's what I read too, the arbitrary placement of the line is what always makes VAR iffy to me, but if the lines are right then ruling is correct

Also not a Spurs fan, but man I hate this call. I don't necessarily mind the close VAR calls, but I wish there were room for interpretation to make the rule fit the intent of the rule.

The intent of the rule is to prevent cherry picking on forward passes. This isn't the case here. You've got more Sporting guys in that box and on that line. They had a guy in position to intercept, and he basically did. There's nothing unfair about this situation at all.

But obviously bringing in interpretive wiggle room comes with another whole host of issues.

I think it was Van Basten who wanted to basically draw a line across the top of the box and get rid of all offside on passes initiated past that line. I really like that idea.
