Three games into the Return of Ronaldo and I think it's going about how everyone expected. He's scoring goals but we're not appreciably better with him...because he's not a midfielder.

Why OGS and Co thought a midfield pairing of McFred was more than fine is beyond me. both are ok players, starters in a pinch, and they both show glimpses of being more, but both should not be starting on a CL contending squad. Should have ponied up for Goretzka or Saul if you felt you couldnt afford Rice this window. DVB must have hit on Mrs. Solskjaer at the team banquet to never get any run like he has. JFC.

its also painfully evident how much of an offensive liability AWB is on the right. the guy is just not a threat and his touch is really bad at times, losing possession so often.

AWB has seemingly gone backwards offensively. I think Dalot would be getting more games if we had a better defensive mid to provide cover for his lack of defensive ability (relative to AWB).

I just saw that we play WHU tomorrow in the gummy bear cup. The rematch is on.

I've mentioned my dislike of AWB. His biggest problem has always been his lack of touch on the ball. But, he's unfortunately our only option given our lack of defensive mid.

The best part are the backups. At the top of the list is one Phil Jones. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Only caught the 2nd half but that was uninspiring. I get that it's only the League Cup but I think Ole is going to regret starting a team full of reserves. He needs something to point to and winning the League Cup is probably more impactful than finishing 10+ points off the top of the EPL or losing in the CL Group Stage or round of 16.

No one cares about the EFL cup except that Ole keeps losing in knockout/must win matches. The losses are stacking up.

Yeah, I agree to an extent. No one cares about the League Cup...

...until they underachieve in all the other competitions.

So where are we on the Ole hot seat? Personally I think it should be scalding hot.

It should be hotter than it actually is. I don't think the Glazers get rid of him until the end of the season at the earliest. It would take a cataclysmic failure for them to get rid of him mid-season...something on the order of crashing out of the CL and residing in mid-table come December.

But personally, my patience with him is wearing thin. He's done well re-establishing a certain ethos at United but center midfielder deficiency or not, this team should be playing much better than it is. And that's on him. Part of the problem is that there isn't a stable of elite coaches available at the moment. Antonio Conte is the only one that comes to mind and I don't see that happening.

The romantic in me would love for SAF to come in mid-season and whip this talent into shape but that will never, ever, ever happen.

My one hope is that maybe OGS really does have a strong relationship with Haaland and the Glazers believe he can help reel him in. Otherwise, thank him for his service and move on.
