Not sure I'd call Billy Cannon Jr obscure. He was a stud. Hardest hitter I ever saw. Long before The Hit, I saw him absolutely destroy a TCU RB (Marcus Gilbert, who was a stud for the Frogs) on a swing pass on the last play of the first half of the 82 game. I heard it LOUDLY on the second deck.

He also returned punts and was always being run out of bounds because he just would not go down. I think his sister also attended TAMU?

Toya Jones. Track star but also a defensive back. Much better in track than football, if I recall.

He made a huge play in that game. Knocked down a Hail Mary pass that would have won the game for KSU

Surprised I haven't seen the name come up yet, Chris Alexander. He was a heck of a fullback during the Fran era

I guess he was forgotten. Good thread to post it on.

I remember Keith Alex, because I bumped into him at a party. Nice guy. I thought he would be a little bigger being on the OL and all. But think he even managed to hang on an NFL team for a year or two as a backup.

Fran drove us to forget many things, unfortunately.

As I continue my stroll down memory lane, i'm surprised no one has mentioned…
David Walker-QB from Sulphur, Louisiana.
Ran the wishbone option as well as anyone in the game during the Emory Bellard era.
Last I heard I believe he lives in Houston.
Seems I recall he was interviewed on TexAgs a few years ago.

Well, he wouldn't exactly fit the bill as obscure...

One of my all-time favorites was "Big Play" Jay Brooks. Talk about a dude that could deliver big plays in clutch moments.

According to Google he's a police officer in Atlanta now. Good for him! And I wonder if anyone has ever tried to run from him...

I will remember him for the TD hail mary where he or someone tipped and caught it. I listened to it on the radio online. The comm said "Hail Mary? Why not!?".

I posted this on the other thread, but would be better here.

Sam Williams; first black football player to where an Aggie jersey (1969). Met him a few times back in the 90's. Nice guy.

surprised he didn't have a better pro career than the AFL. Kid was a stud and put up numbers. Another name that had slipped out of my reach.

I know there are a lot of folks out in the real world that read TexAgs. Any engineers out there ever cross paths with Jason Atkinson? He was a stud linebacker in the early 90s and CVEN major. I think he may have gotten a head degree too. I looked him up on TBPELS, and believe he works in the DFW area.

Dustin Long - threw a pretty long ball. He was tossed into a hard situation with coaching changes between RC and Fran eras. Didn't help him that he had a true Freshman phenom in Reggie McNeal nipping at his heels either. Would have liked to see how he would have done had he continued here. I believe he ended up being pretty successful once he transferred to Sam Houston.
