Bobby Strogen was an LB I liked to watch.
Carl Grulich was a DB I seem to recall chasing down Johnny lam jones from behind. Mike Whitwell was mentioned…played intramural basketball against him and holy smokes that dude could jump. I think he was a high jumper in track?
I was at the A&M Texas Tech game at Lubbock in 1977 as I recall for a night game.
On one memorable play, Carl, who played safety, came on a blitz around left end unblocked.
As the tech quarterback dropback to pass with his back to Carl who was coming with a full head of steam put his helmet right in his back between the shoulder blades of the QB and absolutely buried him.
As I recall the play resulted in a fumble.
Ags won but I don't recall the final score. I don't think it was close though.
After all these years I still have a clear memory of that play by Carl Grulich. He was a great player for A&M.

This is Grady Hoermann. He was an All American back during the Stallings era. His ex-wife used to live near me. I got to meet him because he still cut her grass. Helluva a nice guy, and even in his late-60s he looked like he could knock the crap out of me.

Someone mentioned in the Ready. Or not thread: Craig Stump. Rare that an Ag QB is "obscure" but he's the one who stepped in after Kevin Murray shattered his ankle, and began the turnaround of a dismal outlook for Sherrill's Aggies in 84. A few years later, after riding the bench when Murray came back, he and freshman Bucky Richardson copiloted the Ags back to the Cotton Bowl.

Not sure I'd call Billy Cannon Jr obscure. He was a stud. Hardest hitter I ever saw. Long before The Hit, I saw him absolutely destroy a TCU RB (Marcus Gilbert, who was a stud for the Frogs) on a swing pass on the last play of the first half of the 82 game. I heard it LOUDLY on the second deck.
