Awesome.

I was a non-paid extra in Necessary Roughness. Good times at NTSU's (UNT's) Fouts Field.

Pour one out for Fouts Field.

Sarah Fuller barely kicked the football on one play to the Missouri Tigers' 35 yard line. The reason she did not kick any other time during the game was because her Commodore football team was shut out 41-0. Congratulations to Sarah, but her team still got skunked 41-0 by the Tigers, meaning she did not make any real difference in the game. I am all for equality of opportunity but this was not a true "headline" story today even though most networks covered it as a major breakthrough event for female athletes.

Vandy really needs to be the first team to field and all-girls team. If they are going to lose every game anyway, let's crash through that glass floor.

This bold and selfless act of fairness and equality so inspired the Vandy team they lost 41-0 and it should have been worse. Derek Mason saves his job and the Vandy faithful are exalted at the social progress of their team.

Was it a publicity stunt ? To a certain extent sure
Was she taken advantage of or put at risk ? Sure

Was she capable of playing? Absolutely. She can kick the crap out of a soccer ball and with more practice probably could do the same with a football.

My kid's a goalkeeper in college. They by nature are a tough lot used to collisions and contact. She's broken a wrist and collar bone playing soccer over the years, and has been spiked and collided numerous times. She ( and Sarah ) know the risks and aren't afraid I can assure you

She grew up an Aggie fan and as a kid wanted to play football at A&M. Her first A&M game she cried when she found out she wasn't going to get to play that day. She was 4 years old

Exactly.

I'm watching the SEC Football Final and you'd think Vanderbilt won the game with a last second field goal.

I told my wife, who played collegiate basketball, that she'll get killed if she tries to attempt a tackle. She asked why, and I told her that I don't want to get hit by a SEC caliber player, and also showed her this. She understood.

Ok didn't read through all the replies.. but why is this girl getting all this attention?
Didn't Colorado have a female kicker back in the early 2000's ?

The girl who played for CU (not in a game) and then got in games at new Mexico was a girl trying to make the team and be a kicker and actively practiced to do so.

Vandy's entire kicking unit got wiped out due to covid and students are already gone from campus so no chance for walk on tryouts. The Vandy soccer team won the SEC title game this past week so they were in campus. Mason asked their coach if he had anyone who could maybe help. This girl gave it a go.

That's it. Of course there will be people over hyping it but most people saying 'awesome' are just generally acknowledging a cool moment. Nobody is saying she did great or is better than others or anything.

I do find some humor in the pot shots by some* on here considering E. King Gill and the story of the 12th man.

You do realize Vanderbilt has a men's club soccer team. I knew the long horn punter from a few years ago. That is how he got to on the Longhorn Football Team. They held tryouts with the men's club team.

Totally a stunt.
Exactly. No mention of men's club guys trying out with her- which leads me to believe it was a publicity stunt.

Equality be damned!

She was given a spot based on chromosomes. There were no tryouts noted! No one on the intramural men's soccer team given an opportunity, no players noted given an opportunity.

Publicity stunt period! Chances are depending on quarantine she will not be there next week.

If she ever gets tackled or blocked hard, she could likely get her neck snapped. It's very risky virtue signaling.

They had said all students where gone from campus, so the club team wasn't on campus.

Also if you bring in avg student they haven't been in the covid testing program like she was with the soccer team.

It still was a stunt by a head coach about to,get fired.

Also she wasn't the first female to play, why the record book now is divided between P5 and non P5 is also new news to me

She was asked on Sunday when most students were already gone for Thanksgiving. Plus there are SEC COVID protocols which she is already in compliance with as an active athlete. You could not just have a non athlete suit up and be ready for Saturday. Maybe in a non COVID world, but in this case she was the best option available who happens to be a girl.

My son plays High School tennis.

He is in Junior Varsity but not yet good enough for the Varsity boys team.

He has a classmate who plays on the Girls Varsity team as Singles No 2 player. He beats her black and blue on the tennis court when they play. She finds it hard to get even a game.

Maybe my son should start to play on the Girls Tennis team "to break barriers". Maybe all the Junior Varsity boys should try out for the Girls Varsity team and may the best players win.

Three thoughts
1. Are you telling me there isn't a single guy at Vandy that can't outkick her?
2. If she were to get hit I'd be legitimately worried about her.
3. Just putting one woman in a group of guys instantly changes the dynamic, no matter where it is. Focus changes, the way you talk to one another changes, it all changes.

A few things.

1st... as a GK, she is accustomed to hitting the ball for distance from a stationary position (aka not punting). For kickoffs...she may be the best on campus who tried out.

2nd... as a GK... she is used to having the ball kicked right at her. She may not be able to take a a direct hit from a LBer, but she has probably been hit pretty hard.

Pressure? She probably has little issue with high pressure focus.

I like that it seems like a legit EKingGill moment, and not some gimmick... it may be a gimmick, but the premise at least seems legit.

Lastly... cue the Baylor kicker getting up-ended in the bowl (against MSU?). Doubt she'd be taken down as easily.

She's been hit by girls that are probably 5'7" and 140 on average, not a 6'2" 230lb. LB who benches 350 and squats 500 or so on average. She wouldn't get up if she took a legitimate shot. Good for her, but not sure what this really proves. Her kickoff that I saw was not good and at 50 I could kick that far and probably further.

Or will she sue NCAA for sexual harassment?

Several years ago Serena Williams, when she was the #1 woman in the world and at her best, tried training and playing with some scrub dude who was like the #300 men's player in the world and he absolutely destroyed her nonstop. She couldn't make a point or break serve.

John MacEnroe got blasted by the SJW crowd for saying Serena would be like #600 in the men's rankings but he was correct and I think she even agreed with him.

Any of you saying this wasn't a publicity stunt don't follow Vanderbilt enough to know this was 100% a combination of publicity stunt, diversity agenda, and attempt to save Mason's job.

Vanderbilt was initially talking of having a tryout within the roster, which is what most anyone would do in this situation since COVID ruled out bringing in anyone who was already home for the break. The expectation was that the punter, who has a strong leg, would win. Mason then canceled the tryout and said he had a solution, then handed the job to Fuller without giving anyone else a shot. Based on practice reports, she couldn't get kickoffs past the 30, and her extra points were so low and slow that they likely would have been blocked. There's video out from practice that shows that.

Facing this situation, I suspect any other SEC team would have had the punter handle kickoffs and just gone for two on touchdowns.

But, any other SEC team would have had winning as the priority. The Vanderbilt administration loves a progressive moment far more than winning a game, and Mason rightly diagnosed that playing a woman would do more for saving his job than choosing the best candidate to try to win a game he'd probably lose anyway. Now, he has reinforced the false narrative that he shouldn't be held accountable since he was so undermanned this year, and he's also a progressive hero to boot. The truth is that he's undermanned because about 30 players have transferred or permanently opted out since last season, and he's about to have Vanderbilt's first ever winless season while having his 7th losing season of 7 as a head coach. Even with a big buyout due to an insane extension from Vanderbilt's late AD Williams, it looked a couple weeks ago like Mason might finally be fired, but I suspect he somehow found a way to make that less likely during a 41-0 loss to a fairly poor team.
Pathetic.
This was a stupid move all around, but for "progressives", their political agenda is paramount, and all other considerations are moot.

Musculature is not the only sex difference relevant to football. Men also have superior bone density and resistance to injury in general. Not to mention speed, balance, and upper body strength -- the things you need to take a hit or evade one.

Imagine if she had kicked a FG. Something went wrong, bobbled the snap, whatever, and she took a hit. If she were seriously injured, her parents would be on solid legal grounds (based on extremely well established medical literature) to sue the hell out of the university and win.
