Ok didn't read through all the replies.. but why is this girl getting all this attention?
Didn't Colorado have a female kicker back in the early 2000's ?
The girl who played for CU (not in a game) and then got in games at new Mexico was a girl trying to make the team and be a kicker and actively practiced to do so.
Vandy's entire kicking unit got wiped out due to covid and students are already gone from campus so no chance for walk on tryouts. The Vandy soccer team won the SEC title game this past week so they were in campus. Mason asked their coach if he had anyone who could maybe help. This girl gave it a go.
That's it. Of course there will be people over hyping it but most people saying 'awesome' are just generally acknowledging a cool moment. Nobody is saying she did great or is better than others or anything.
I do find some humor in the pot shots by some* on here considering E. King Gill and the story of the 12th man.
You do realize Vanderbilt has a men's club soccer team. I knew the long horn punter from a few years ago. That is how he got to on the Longhorn Football Team. They held tryouts with the men's club team.
Totally a stunt.

Does suiting this chick up to kick a horrible kickoff officially end sexism and make men and women exactly alike?

I wonder what stunt Mason will pull next week vs Georgia. Maybe there's a blind one-legged receiver to trot out on special teams to divert attention from the ****ty team and coaching performance

Three thoughts
1. Are you telling me there isn't a single guy at Vandy that can't outkick her?
2. If she were to get hit I'd be legitimately worried about her.
3. Just putting one woman in a group of guys instantly changes the dynamic, no matter where it is. Focus changes, the way you talk to one another changes, it all changes.
A few things.
1st... as a GK, she is accustomed to hitting the ball for distance from a stationary position (aka not punting). For kickoffs...she may be the best on campus who tried out.
2nd... as a GK... she is used to having the ball kicked right at her. She may not be able to take a a direct hit from a LBer, but she has probably been hit pretty hard.
Pressure? She probably has little issue with high pressure focus.
I like that it seems like a legit EKingGill moment, and not some gimmick... it may be a gimmick, but the premise at least seems legit.
Lastly... cue the Baylor kicker getting up-ended in the bowl (against MSU?). Doubt she'd be taken down as easily.

My son plays High School tennis.
He is in Junior Varsity but not yet good enough for the Varsity boys team.
He has a classmate who plays on the Girls Varsity team as Singles No 2 player. He beats her black and blue on the tennis court when they play. She finds it hard to get even a game.
Maybe my son should start to play on the Girls Tennis team "to break barriers". Maybe all the Junior Varsity boys should try out for the Girls Varsity team and may the best players win.

Any of you saying this wasn't a publicity stunt don't follow Vanderbilt enough to know this was 100% a combination of publicity stunt, diversity agenda, and attempt to save Mason's job.
Vanderbilt was initially talking of having a tryout within the roster, which is what most anyone would do in this situation since COVID ruled out bringing in anyone who was already home for the break. The expectation was that the punter, who has a strong leg, would win. Mason then canceled the tryout and said he had a solution, then handed the job to Fuller without giving anyone else a shot. Based on practice reports, she couldn't get kickoffs past the 30, and her extra points were so low and slow that they likely would have been blocked. There's video out from practice that shows that.
Facing this situation, I suspect any other SEC team would have had the punter handle kickoffs and just gone for two on touchdowns.
But, any other SEC team would have had winning as the priority. The Vanderbilt administration loves a progressive moment far more than winning a game, and Mason rightly diagnosed that playing a woman would do more for saving his job than choosing the best candidate to try to win a game he'd probably lose anyway. Now, he has reinforced the false narrative that he shouldn't be held accountable since he was so undermanned this year, and he's also a progressive hero to boot. The truth is that he's undermanned because about 30 players have transferred or permanently opted out since last season, and he's about to have Vanderbilt's first ever winless season while having his 7th losing season of 7 as a head coach. Even with a big buyout due to an insane extension from Vanderbilt's late AD Williams, it looked a couple weeks ago like Mason might finally be fired, but I suspect he somehow found a way to make that less likely during a 41-0 loss to a fairly poor team.
