It's a very tin foilish thought, but if it IS Spurrier, the question has to be - setting our bias aside - WHY he would come here??? A cross-country move for a guy in his 70s who is used to being top dog? We added a highly regarded Chavis (who probably realized LSU would never pass Bama with Les at the helm). Spurrier would be absolutely HUGE.
Consider. Saban is abrasive. Sustained success breeds a longer list of enemies. Would Spurrier do it if there was added incentive of participating in an elaborate plan to take down Saban? Spurrier has enough money, has NC, prestige, .... Why would he possibly come here? What if there are very powerful/wealthy playas who are trying to build A&M to knock Bama off its national perch? Then why don't they do this at Auburn or Florida, you ask? The added allure of A&M is that we are newcomers, possess almost limitless potential, commitment, huge fan base, may have more money to spend (we certainly have the shiniest new stadium in the SEC) and KS is a minority coach. Many of us want to see minority coaches, especially, succeed. If the Bama dynasty is unseated by A&M, it's more impressive, and much sweeter.
I know - massively tin foilish. MASSIVELY.
