Great bump!

It is fun to look back and see who all the posters were that were scared of the SEC and wanted to go to the PAC or stay in the XII.

It is also good to reflect on all the things that were said then that we know now not to be true. We can all see clearly that tu was manipulating the situation from the start, including creating the instability that caused Nebraska to leave, in hopes that it would make their plan to move them and their acolytes to the PAC. They didn't plan on us being proactive, and it is obvious that their "telling us the SEC is a bad idea" was simply to keep us in the fold.

It is clear that everything tu told us was not entirely true, and that many of those things turned out to be the opposite of true!. More proof of the grand manipulation and deceit by their university.

It is also worthy to note that OU is the school that ultimately got screwed the worst. Missouri took their spot in the SEC, and it has been a godsend for them. Funny how things work out.

I am so thankful that our leaders did the right thing and moved us to the SEC. It is where we should have been all along.

I don't think we deliver as many eyeballs as you think. Hell we are barely on TV each year. tu is on every week.

My biggest fear is the LOSS we would take in recruiting as kids would leave the state for greener SEC grounds than what we have - plus they would not have to pass the TASP test to play for those other schools.
Good call, dumbass

Strongbad,

There are some problems with your proposal.

First, that move would have little impact on Texas. Texas would still have every option available to them. They would actually be free to pursue the best possible situation, which is not the case today. The idea that A&M making a move would affect the psyche of the Texas fan base is absurd. The Texas fans want what is best for Texas, and to suggest that they are worried about A&M going to the SEC is just simply not accurate. Texas would still hold the recruiting advantage, because Texas would still be winning. You are simply overestimating the effect that such a move would have on Texas.

Second, and more to the point, the SEC does not want to expand. They may do so in response to other conferences, but if they had their way they would remain as they are. The SEC is not going to make the first move.

I think what a lot of the recently posturing has shown is that if A&M could carry out their proposal, they would.

This needs to be posted the next time the sip media pushes for the series to continue. This is a perfect example of why the game isn't important to the sips for the game, it's important because of the politics that can be played with it as a bargaining chip. We called them on that the first time.

Like it or not, but UT is the big Prize. The PAC-10 needs the state of Texas to survive financially. The PAC-10 is willing to get down our their knees and slobber the knob of the entire state of Texas.

1) UT knows this. UT can and will dictate the terms. UT wants A&M, OU, OSU, and Tech to come along (politics and $$$$).

Many had vision and saw what was coming, others got pieces right others were truly blind and never saw the big picture.

Now I am seeing that some B1G insider is saying that Missouri is in discussions with them. Does anyone believe that Mizzou would leave the SEC for the B1G?

What's funny is that they actually lost options when we went SEC. Instead of having us tag along to whatever hunting grounds they decided was best for them, they may have to bring along Tech, Baylor, or TCU to be allowed to leave the BDF. Good luck getting a good conference to agree to that one.

With Loftin at Mizzou?? Not likely.

Plus, there's still a buy-in for the B1G. Now, Delany was flexible with Maryland because of the lawsuit with the ACC, and structured their buy-in on the back-end to help their cash-flow up front. But they still have to pay.

Dodds could not have put tu in a worse position if he had been an Aggie spy planted to sabotage their athletic department.

1. Start out the new conference (Big XII) with unequal revenue sharing and treat everyone else poorly.
2. Run off two premier schools (Nebraska and Colorado), thereby weakening the conference.
3. Start up your own network to gain an unfair advantage both financially and in recruiting, thereby eliminating your options with any other conference.
4. Run off two more premier AAU schools (Texas A&M and Mizzou) so that you only have one good conference game per year (tu vs. OU), and no good home conference games AT ALL. This also tips the academics advantage to the SEC over the Big XII.
5. Give your main in-state rival an unfair recruiting advantage by letting them go to the premier football conference in the country, and then refusing to continue the rivalry game to further marginalize yourself.
6. Add two more teams to the conference that provide little (W. Virginia) to no (TCU) additional TV footprint.

Check mate. tu is stuck in a lousy conference with no good prospects. But instead of being an Aggie spy, it was just arrogance.

I always thought Missouri was a stretch for the SEC both culturally and geographically. However, I think Missouri is solidly in the SEC now. They are no more of a cultural stretch than either Arkansas or Kentucky. Plus they are a Land Grant University. Also, they are just as geographically close to everyone in the SEC as they are to the eastern expansion of the B1G.

Not trying to brag, but not everyone was as perfect of a fit into the SEC as TAMU.

Great bump. Nice being on the right side of it, but I really still don't understand anyone that wanted to stay attached to the sips. BAS I guess.

What's funny is that a lot of these predictions have already played out. That conference is boring as hell.

"A resident lib for many years on the politics board..." I think you meant; he (or she) has ideological brothers, sisters and cousins. On the one hand they're good for balance; on the other you wish their reasoning processes were more attuned to reality.

There's no exit fee, that being said they would be crazy to leave now that the SECN is up and running.

I can tell you if you ever hear rumors of A&M a leaving you should laugh obnoxiously in their face. We are where we meant to be, there can be no better conference situation for A&M.

I posted this on the A&M vs t.u. thread, but think in goes well on here after all of the posts about us departing the Big 12-2, and the debate that surrounded it.

Here is my take on playing the $ips:

IF you listen to college football based radio shows like those of Greg McElroy/Taylor Zarsa in the AM, they lauded Michigan's hire of Harbaugh (sp?) for a whopping 8 mil. They both said it would put Michigan back at the top tier of college football "where they deserve to be, and where college football needs them". They referenced the NCAA basketball tourney as an example. Taylor said "we all like to see the Cinderella teams do well, but is it really good for them to win it all, do we really want to see that?" (not an exact ref, but darn near exact)

BUNK! They are where they are, because of their football decisions, and how they approached it. It is up to Michigan to claw their way back up. College football NEEDS those that can succeed. That "where they deserve to be" attitude is exactly what the media said about Texas A&M hiring Jackie. The media was astounded that we broke the million dollar barrier to hire a coach, and we should just accept our place as second fiddle to t.u. If you don't believe me, then read No Experience Required by Jackie. I knew we were looked at as crazy for hiring him at that price, but had no idea we were ostracized like that since I was a HS kid when it happened.

We got hammered by that hire. Michigan gets lauded by theirs. Because "that's where they DESERVE to be. We should just accept our place.

Thinking like this is what is wrong with the media. They like the easy story. The one wrote before them that is easy to tweak and make everyone feel good.

That is why the media is clamoring for a return of the t.u./Texas A&M game. They want to see it, but not for the reason you and I might want. They want to grant t.u. relevance once again, and know the first step since they still play OU, is a game with us again. Until they play us, win or lose, their hopes for a relevant t.u. does not exist unless they DOMINATE the conference built for them to win. And for now, that conference is dominated by two private schools they used to school every year in football. For the media to have t.u. relevant anytime soon, is a rejuvenated rivalry between them and the Aggies, and hopes and prayers that t.u. would luck out an win. Until then one of their beholden love children of college football squanders away as third fiddle with no hope at QB in a conference made for them to win.

LET THEM ROT. They earned it. And the media that wants them at the top "where college football needs them" can KISS MY AGGIE ASS.

End of that post.

Let us not forget what being tied to the $ips brings. The less ties, the better. The media wants our "reunion" with them as bad as they need it. Don't feed the trolls. They will bite the hand that feeds. If you don't feed them, the weaker they get.

The better reason for ignoring Texas is that we have FANTASTIC conference mates now. They structure the conference exactly the way we believe it should be structured and it visibly is a rising....ummm...surge that is lifting all ships...

The LHN has been exposed as the ploy it was: use the brands of conference mates to enrich Texas while blocking the path to a shared conference network. We changed our principles for the better when we left. Looking back means we turn to a pillar of rotten salt with no savor or value. Stay the course.

Epic thread btw.

I'm in my mid 50's and I remember rivalry games like Pitt/Penn St and the Nebraska/OU games and they were always featured games. I don't hear the media every year talking about bringing these games back but they do when it comes to your game with Texas. Maybe the other games that I mentioned have been off the radar too long and your game hasn't?

I know my comments are going to draw angst but in all honesty I don't remember your Thanksgiving game ever being available on television prior to cable. When they finally started showing them it really wasn't that big of a game in other parts of the country and I certainly don't recall anyone that changed their daily routine to watch it. I understand that in Texas it is a big game but in other parts of the country it wasn't a high profile game. When Sherrill was your coach is really the first time I remember watching the game. The "Wizard of Oz" was usually shown every year on Thanksgiving night.

I know I would miss the Ole Miss game if we didn't play them so I can see why many of you want the game back. The thing that really bothers me is that many of you have forgotten how you were treated by Texas why the hell would you want to subject yourself to it so soon after escaping their grasp? I have no doubt that down the road you'll play them again and more than likely in a bowl game but enjoy the time away from them and let it "stew" because it will be a much bigger game and there will be blood spilled.

I started following Texags when realignment started in 2010. When we added South Carolina and Arkansas I was not a fan of it but there were rumors that Texas would possibly be joining and many others felt the same way and there was a collective sigh of relief when they didn't. In 2010 when you decided to stay and not join us I wasn't surprised and I always remembered how TT & Baylor gained membership in the Big 12 and the politics that were involved.

Then a year later the chatter started again and I figured the politics would again play in to it but was surprised that they actually didn't and no one saw what was coming. I believe to this day that Bowtie and your power brokers got their ducks in a row during that time. It caught everyone off guard and it was like you threw a stun grenade in a room and by the time the Big 12 members regained consciousness it was too late to react. Your administration neutered the state legislature it was absolutely brilliant and made them look inept. How many university administrations could have pulled that off?

So glad we finally got you and Mizzou as members and hope that we never look west again for members.
