I'm in my mid 50's and I remember rivalry games like Pitt/Penn St and the Nebraska/OU games and they were always featured games. I don't hear the media every year talking about bringing these games back but they do when it comes to your game with Texas. Maybe the other games that I mentioned have been off the radar too long and your game hasn't?

I know my comments are going to draw angst but in all honesty I don't remember your Thanksgiving game ever being available on television prior to cable. When they finally started showing them it really wasn't that big of a game in other parts of the country and I certainly don't recall anyone that changed their daily routine to watch it. I understand that in Texas it is a big game but in other parts of the country it wasn't a high profile game. When Sherrill was your coach is really the first time I remember watching the game. The "Wizard of Oz" was usually shown every year on Thanksgiving night.

I know I would miss the Ole Miss game if we didn't play them so I can see why many of you want the game back. The thing that really bothers me is that many of you have forgotten how you were treated by Texas why the hell would you want to subject yourself to it so soon after escaping their grasp? I have no doubt that down the road you'll play them again and more than likely in a bowl game but enjoy the time away from them and let it "stew" because it will be a much bigger game and there will be blood spilled.

I started following Texags when realignment started in 2010. When we added South Carolina and Arkansas I was not a fan of it but there were rumors that Texas would possibly be joining and many others felt the same way and there was a collective sigh of relief when they didn't. In 2010 when you decided to stay and not join us I wasn't surprised and I always remembered how TT & Baylor gained membership in the Big 12 and the politics that were involved.

Then a year later the chatter started again and I figured the politics would again play in to it but was surprised that they actually didn't and no one saw what was coming. I believe to this day that Bowtie and your power brokers got their ducks in a row during that time. It caught everyone off guard and it was like you threw a stun grenade in a room and by the time the Big 12 members regained consciousness it was too late to react. Your administration neutered the state legislature it was absolutely brilliant and made them look inept. How many university administrations could have pulled that off?

So glad we finally got you and Mizzou as members and hope that we never look west again for members.

What you have to realize is that many Ags have to work with arrogant tsip (tshirt) fans and just want to play so they could talk smack at the water cooler. I'm sure that had we won the last game almost all of the Ags would want them to rot forever and just sit on scoreboard. The problem is that it is an emotional argument rather than a smart one.

There is also a group of Ags that might have Stockholm syndrome regarding the sips. Their argument is mainly, "we need this game or this game is good for the state of Texas." Again this is an emotional argument because they don't get the furry feeling they would get from playing Texas.

Any enlightened Ag would tell you to hell with "what's good for the state of Texas." The good thing during realignment would have been for us to let the tsips either drag us to the PAC-16 or bend over for all the demands of the lhn. They would also know that we DO NOT NEED THE GAME AT ALL TO BE SUCCESSFUL. "What's good for the for the state of Texas" is code for "what's good for the Texas sports media" which is code for "what's good for the tsips."

Also the poster above is correct that the media would much rather have a great tsip team than they would have a great A&M team, all because it fits their view of the "way cfb should be." So that is why the media gives the rivalry attention, because things are "not right" and they see our series as a means of making them relevant again.

If you do want to see about the politics regarding our move in 2010/2011, you should watch the Texags documentary "SEC Ready". They go in depth on how careful our administration had to step to keep it from being political(I.e. avoiding Austin as the battleground for realignment). It shows just how entangled and ridiculous our state politics are.

You've been a great poster here in the zoo, I think staff should gift it to ya.

I've got news for the sips....your biggest rival always was A&M. It wasn't always the best game on schedule especially in years where we weren't competitive, but it was the biggest rivalry. Proof exists to this day - go to any sip board and count the threads about good old A&M. Then count the threads about OU. There are none.

Further proof exists in any thread talking about Ou/A&M cotton bowl. 95% of sips rooting for their "Biggest rival"? Total BS! See sips, it's not what you say that counts...it's what you do. You guys had a great rivalry, one of the greatest in the land and used "not our rival" in attempt to belittle. Enjoy your "big" games at DKR in the future, idiots.

The better reason for ignoring Texas is that we have FANTASTIC conference mates now. They structure the conference exactly the way we believe it should be structured and it visibly is a rising....ummm...surge that is lifting all ships...

The LHN has been exposed as the ploy it was: use the brands of conference mates to enrich Texas while blocking the path to a shared conference network. We changed our principles for the better when we left. Looking back means we turn to a pillar of rotten salt with no savor or value. Stay the course.

Epic thread btw.

I think the B12 is just now figuring this out

"Boren said the Big 12 suffers from a lack of such a network. The reason there isn't one is because of Texas deal with ESPN for the Longhorn Network."

The problem is, nobody wants just A&M. You'd have to have AT LEAST OU on board.

And any conference would take tu by themselves in a second.

But the problem for the other conferences is the same as it is for A&M: tu is an unpredictable partner because they want their own network. So everybody has to look at a deal both in terms of it having tu AND of it not having tu because they leave in 5 years.

I guarantee you the PAC 16 payout would not be nearly as large without tu.

Strongbad,

There are some problems with your proposal.

First, that move would have little impact on Texas. Texas would still have every option available to them. They would actually be free to pursue the best possible situation, which is not the case today. The idea that A&M making a move would affect the psyche of the Texas fan base is absurd. The Texas fans want what is best for Texas, and to suggest that they are worried about A&M going to the SEC is just simply not accurate. Texas would still hold the recruiting advantage, because Texas would still be winning. You are simply overestimating the effect that such a move would have on Texas.

Second, and more to the point, the SEC does not want to expand. They may do so in response to other conferences, but if they had their way they would remain as they are. The SEC is not going to make the first move.

I think what a lot of the recently posturing has shown is that if A&M could carry out their proposal, they would.

Commented before but as it is on Page Juan again.....

F cow! We should never play them again in the regular season EVER!!!

I can't believe any Aggie would want to play those a-holes. Must have forgotten about their arrogance a hubris and childlike behavior when we left.

F cow, F their team, F their bubble indoor facility, F their turf baseball field, F their school, F their campus, just F 'em!!!

And we have every reason on the field to want to play them again as they suck and Charlie "The Orange Cone - I can't rembwr my QBs name" Strong is a total idiot.

NEVER PLAY COW AGAIN!

No matter if we win or lose the games on the fields, we would completely lose our advantages over them off the field.

The best thing that would help tu in recruiting and brand recognition would be to play us on a regular basis.

Playing tu would be the stupidest thing A&M ever did in Aggie sports history!!!

It's good to see Jarrin' Jay post again! We both go way back to the beginning...almost. Anyway, he speaks the truth. I used to be in the camp that we need to play tu again, but I no longer feel that way. I'd rather play Tech annually, and I don't want that to happen either.

I have long been a proponent of us moving to the SEC, even when it was an unpopular idea. In the early and mid 2000's if you even suggested moving to the SEC on this board you would get blasted.

My how things have changed! We should have always been in the SEC and I'm glad that we finally made it.

One other thing. A big part of playing tu for me has always been Bonfire. Without the "real" Bonfire the game with tu seemed different. Yes, I hated their guts the same. Or maybe it was because we were so rotten through the Fran and Sherman years compared to the Sherrill and Slocum years. I'm just saying that when we had Bonfire, even if we lost the game we still had Bonfire. It's just hard to explain to those that weren't around then.

No genuine chance the sips will be serious about playing us again until, at least in their own minds, they have a competative team that can beat us. One of the many things that the last three years has publicly exposed about our friends in Austin is that they are afraid of real competition! If we never play them again, it will be too soon.

Stress does not build character, it reveals it.

This needs to be an annual bump thread btw! (Just before the season starts.)

Congrats to all of you afraid to play sippy. You are falling right in line with the sips plan to counter A&M I. The SEC. Their plan is working because they knew you folks would do exactly as they want.

1. Avoid A&M on the field at all cost. Can't use media to overcome a 51-6 ass whipping on the field
2. Use the MEDIA in their favor. Let the media be loud on the side of sip.
3. Use the weak-ass schedule to win a few games and the media will run that to death
4. Let A&M lose a few games.
5. Media will be set up to trump Strong as the dude to bring back sip football

You guys are playing along fine. Consider this:

2015 247 composit recruiting rankings
sippy - #10
Aggies - #11

2016 247 composit recruiting rankings
sippy - #11
Aggies - #19

2017 247 composit recruiting rankings (current)
sippy - #20
Aggies - #30

These results are now when sips have won actually nothing. All they've done is duck us. Don't play during the regular season, and politic the hell out of folks to duck us in now games.

And, of course, play many of our fans to fall right in line with their plan. Congrats to you folks. You managed to turn it around for them.

Jbkaschke - i seem to recall a lot of spin when we played. It was there when we won too.

"You managed to turn it around for them." Sure. We did that. Not that anything has turned around for them except.......hey, what do you know....good PR and perception. They've generally always had this advantage and we did that?

The only way to turn the media spin is to kick the **** out of them on the field. Head to head. Can't really say they are passing us if we kill them on the field. So, by not playing them, we've let the media take over. That was their plan all along.

Congrats!!!

And for totally giving up on the team. I agree that Sumlin has not been perfect. However, it's going to be hard for anyone to be perfect, though I personally believe what Sumlin has done should warren this firing.

The media has been in love with sippy since they first opened up a journalism school a gizallion years ago. They know that, which is why they've put all their eggs in that basket. Funny thing is, most Aggies also know this, yet they are fully on board with their plans.

Bonfire 1996 wrote this and i copied it for occasions such as this....

"Demand for seats at a blackjack table at Casinos are high, must be a good deal, right?

The analogy has more truth to it than you think. You see, it took a massive conflict between A&M's donor class and its administration, and a major outflow of cash from sip boosters, to barely beat us in recruiting. Why? Because we are dominating this State in perception amongst the two flagship schools. It took a rare event for them to sniff our jocks.

But put them on the schedule, and you place things in a more even game. Why do it? What upside do we have? When we have a decent season, we dominate them in recruiting and perception in our new SEC digs. We control our destiny. It is the position we always wanted, but have never had, and now some Aggie fans want to get nostalgic. Why? Can we not go a decade alone and see how we do? Are you that infatuated with your ex?

You fail to remember the political capital expended by the sips in tilting the playing field in their favor 364 days per year, only to play a game that you thought was fair. No, we don't need to play a team whose most dominating victories come off the field, like when Ricky was traded to the Texas Rangers right before he was to declare for the 1998 draft. Can you imagine the 1998 sips with just tiny freshman Major Applewhite at QB with no Ricky behind him? Kind of changes things, right?

For Pete's sake, you had an Old Rivalries sip poster junkie who spent hours upon hours defending the internet honor of all things longhorn......end up being the back judge that called the targeting penalty on Trent Hunter in 2011. And you want to sign that game up again because it might sell a few tickets and make a good story? Are you that selfish and narrow minded?

Come on people. Why must we go over this every few weeks. Remember the lengths they went to keep us down. Just read the LHN contract if you want to know the lengths they will go to create a permanent off field advantage. Why do they continue to do it? Because they know, like Jackie knows, "It ain't about the X's and O's, its about the Johnny's and Joe's" Right now, we control our own destiny with "Johnny and Joe" for the first time in over a century, and you want to potentially give that up? Were you born stupid?"
