Am I the only one that wears it on a chain around my neck?
quote:
use mine as a cock ring
There were two secret societies, the Boots and the Swastikas. Wearing the ring on the left hand had nothing to do with "SECRECY"! My father, '39, wore his on the left hand to keep the ring from digging into his fingers when shaking hands,so do I, '70, Back the, MEN, wore the antiqued ring.12th Man777 said:
I was talking to this guy today and he offered me quite an interesting idea...and it had to deal with people wearing the Aggie Ring on the left hand. He basically stated the idea of a secret society of Aggies that show their membership to this secret organization by wearing the ring on the left hand.
-He also said that he thinks Earl Rudder is either a member or started the organization...supposedely Rudder's statue shows him with his ring on his left hand.
a few reasons that I didn't totally blow this idea off...
1) I have never heard of an Aggie Ring being worn on the left hand...so if there is a reason please let me know so I can inform this guy.
2) His friend was very hesitant when asked about why he wore his ring on his left...he said that he had it there so girls could see he's not married.
3) Another guy's grandfather won't tell him why he wears his ring on his left even though he has asked repeatedly about it.
4) He said it's rare to see a ring on the left hand and it seems that only "high ranking" Aggies do it.
Even if this guy is 100000% wrong, he did a great job at telling a convincing and enjoyable story.
so...
Has anyone ever noticed this? and of so, what does it mean?

Evidently back in the day, a lot of Ags wore their ring on their left hand. I talked to Rudder's wife and she told me that she was glad that Ags have taken to wearing their rings on their right hand b/c Ags would shake her hand and clasp her hand with their left hand and the ring would hurt her hand when it hit it.

Oh theres a fairly well documented secret society at A&M, forget the name of it. I had never heard of the ring on the left hand however or if its related to that group.

It's a toe ring sold by the secret society!Jock 07 said:
You've got it all wrong; the secret people wear it on their big toe of their left foot

I don't know if this is why, but my dad, class of '52, his friends and nearly all ags I knew around his age worn their rings this way.aggieband 83 said:
It was explained to me that you should love Texas A&M almost as much as you love your wife. That is why you wear both rings on your left hand. The wedding ring is a little closer to your heart than the Aggie nugget. Meaning you love her just a little more than your school.
hey now, don't give those fish camp counsellors any ideasallMondjoy said:
With the way things are going related to enrollment, it won't be long before the ring will be worn thru the nose!
Spot on with what my Brother-in-law said.musicman55 said:
I've had my Ring for 30+ yrs. Always worn it on my left hand, for mostly personal reasons. I'm right-handed, and I am more comfortable writing with my ring on my left hand. I also wear a thin wedding band on my left hand along with my Ring... I told my wife that she was closer to my heart than A&M... she said "but not by much"... I said, "Well....."
I recently had a friend of the family, Class of '07 ask me about this secret society thing. I've been out of A&M over 30 years, and I've never heard of the left-hand ring thing being symbolic of membership in some secret society. Never heard of it when I was a student, either. I've never had someone assume I was a member of a group because of which hand I wear my Ring on. In my experience, this rumor is a fairly recent occurrence. I can only tell you that, in 30+ years, my Ring is on my left hand purely out of personal preference, and for no other reason.

I guess my class of '50 dad was a member of the secret society and was true to his vows and never talked about it. He always told me here wore it on his left hand because he was an architect back when the drew on drafting tables and his ring on the right hand got in the way, He wore it next to his wedding ring for over 50 years. There was so much more gold in his Aggie ring that the wedding band cur a circle in to it.
