an additional engraving might require help from the ring office and balfours

unless they get no name on the inside which would still arouse suspicion.

My grandfather was Class of '30. I have his ring and other items from A&M. I do not recall him wearing his ring on his left hand, but he did have a secret society pin with a swastika on it. As discussed before, this was before the rise of the 3rd Reich.

I wear mine on my right hand. The reason? I typically throw my first punch with my right fist. Aggie stamp to the face.

In Jim Dent's "Junction Boys":

"Though times were rapidly changing across America, the clocks seemed frozen at Texas A&M, where 90 percent of the students were still members of the Corps and most resented the abolishment of compulsory membership. World War II had ended almost a decade earlier but given the daily manuvers in Aggieland, you would have thought WWIII was being hatched in a campus boardroom.

Administrators had attempted to polish the college's image by banning hazing. But the students aggressively fought back, and a secret organization called the True Texans, or TTs, emerged for the purpose of challenging the administration's new ideas on campus life. Some of the cadets confused tradition with patriotism."

Sound familiar?

I wear mine on the left hand with my wedding band on the inside . . .

Reason: Just before we picked up our rings we went out with one of my buddies grandpa (Class of '38. . . we asked hime which hand he wears his ring on . . .he said and i quote

"Hand? what do you mean hand? Your Aggie Ring?" and then he put his hand out . . i thought he was about to lay a smack down on us right there. His wife then says . .it's the only ring he's ever worn.

They've been married 60+ years . . So my ol' lady and i picked up our rings the next day, put them on our left hand and walked straight to the Chicken in our boots!!!

He has moved his to his right hand because he married someone from California and she wasn't down with it. I of course gave him hell about it . . but in reality the wife comes first.

I kept mine on my left with my wedding ring on the inside. People ask me all the time and I just say . . . It's Old Army!!

Oh, you'd better have a handle of Beam with you when you order your Big Red at the Chicken . . . in case someone asks you if you know Alex!!!

My father always had his wedding ring soldered to his Aggie ring and wore both on his left hand.

You should wear it on whatever hand you punch with.

I wear mine on my left hand because it's a little loose on my right ring finger. During football season, the ring would flop around and gouge my finger to the point where it would bleed.

So I put my slighly loose Aggie ring on my left hand and then put my wedding ring in front to secure it and act as a ring guard. Problem solved, although my wife doesn't exactly like it...

Before the not so secret group, my dad's generation--class of 37 in his case--old like General Rudder--were of a generation when most weddings were single ring ceremonies and few couples could even afford that second gold band.

It was highly common for dad and his friends to wear the Aggie ring as their only ring. And on the so called wedding hand.

It was only as more men started wearing rings and more weddings were double ring ceremonies that left handed rings became less common.

I wear my ring on my left hand for 2 reasons:

1) It's too small to fit on my right and I'm too lazy to get it resized.
2) I'm right handed so when I write and stuff, I always hit it on stuff.

I find it really funny that everybody makes such a big deal about it. Just because I was in the band and I wear it on the left, doesn't mean I have secret meetings about killing wags in the steam tunnels.

It's also funny that the only people that asked me about that were counselors in fish camp...

secret societies are for losers who are too weak to survive on their own. Generally they are also for people who have inherently unethical goals, for if they were ethical, it wouldn't be a secret.

i dont know to much about it but as a current student i have heard of it. The corps commander my fish year wore his on his left hand. A prof that has the class before mine wears his on his left hand. Im kinda scared to ask him why but it has crossed my mind for the past two weeks.

Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. I laughed out loud when I read that. Yep, the too-cool-for-school Stickas. That whole deal was definitely no secret when I was a senior. My buddies knew who most of them were going back a few years - there weren't many, something like 10 or 12 per senior class. The Batt did a big article about them the last week of school, but nothing much happened. Are they still around?

And yes, all the ones that I knew did wear their ring on their left hand...but so did I.

Jabba . . . i was laughing so hard when i wrote that . . . I called all my buddies and told them what was going on this board . . . we all laughed hysterically!!!!

The people on this board need to read . . at least watch Lord of Discipline!!! "It's the 10!!"

If you were in the Corps . . these stories are old news. In every group, military or fraternal (or sororital . . but that's not a real word), there will be a "secret soceity" or click! ain't no thing . . . just at A&M it's a little CRAFTy!!!!!

i'm still laughing!!!!

Oh . . and i'll be late to the meeting tonight!!

All of the male members of my family wear their Aggie ring on their left hand. Only the females don't (coincidence? I think they like their big rocks better). It's been that way in our family since '23. But, my uncle did tell me where to see some interesting things in steamy places under campus...

I once had a conversation with an old Scottish Ag about this. This is basically the gist.

quote:

OLD AG: Well, it's a well known fact, Sonny Jim, that there's a secret society of the five most powerful people in Aggieland, known as The Stickas, who run everything in Aggieland, including the Battalian, and meet tri-annually at a secret meeting room in the Academic Building, known as The Meadows.

HAVOC: So who's in this "Stickas"?

OLD AG: Bill Byrne, Dr. Gates, Mays, Rudder, *and* the owner of Chicken Express. Oh, I hate that Chicken Express Guy with is wee *beady* eyes, and that smug look on his face. "Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken! Ohhhhh!"

HAVOC: How can you hate "The Chicken Express guy"?

OLD AG: Because he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smart@$$!

That's basically all I know on the subject.

I was told by a person who was class of 67 that there was a secret society and that they wore their rings on their left hand. He is still employed at the university and is very well connected. He's told me of occurences where he's had a conversation with one the members of the secret society before.

You know how rumors get started but he told me on more than one occassion about this group. Take it for what it's worth, but given all the stuff that goes on behind the scene that many don't know about, it would not surprise me. I've been around long enough to suspect through my observation that the rumor may actually be true. Notice I said rumor b/c I cannot confirm but the conversations shared with me have been interesting.
