Heading into the Mariners series with only a 4 game lead and without Altuve & Correa is pretty scary.
I ate a lot of crow via text this weekend, that's for sure.
Worst lineup I've seen in awhile, but silver lining is it's comprised of young up and comers and this was an extremely low stakes series in the grand scheme of things:

Apparently we have just traded for Osuna, the closer from the Blue Jays. Currently suspended but will be coming off it soon...he's been lights out for the last couple years but the suspension is for domestic violence so he'll have baggage

Osuna might still go to jail or have his visa rejected so I wouldnt celebrate. This is basically two teams swapping guys they cant use, but only the Blue Jays currently know they can even put their guy on the field, plus they are way to the good on the PR side as well. This is just a dump of Giles for trash that might be back to being a good player someday. Maybe this fall, maybe next year, maybe never,gougler08 said:

Are you saying he's trash because 1) he's a DV scumbag 2) he's unlikely to get reps (legal) or 3) he's lost it, pitching?

I'm not exactly familiar with what he did, but I suspect many will probably say he's trash because of that, based on what I have heard.
What I meant, however, was that he's "trash" in the sense that he's currently a useless part of a baseball team's roster in the same way I would say that Ken Giles is trash, because your closer is worthless if he's at AAA because he's a nutcase that blows up in spectacular fashion. Toronto cant use him, has no idea when he'll play, and he's also a PR nightmare...so IMO teams are swapping trash here, but Toronto got a much less smelly bag when it comes down to it, IMO.

Pitching wise, Osuna is most definitely not trash. In terms of quality and salary/years of control, etc.

Yeah he's a top 5 closer in the league assuming he can play, .91 career WHIP. It's a gamble but hope it works out

This could all be for nothing. Osuna's court date is tomorrow. His legal trouble could stop him from getting a US work visa. Then it would have all been about just dumping Giles.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Osuna is convicted or pleads out or has his US work visa rejected can the Astros cut him and void his contract?
If so, then this was a brilliant way to dump Giles and his contract and free up cash.
I don't think they did it to save the $2mm or do they still owe Giles. That would have been pretty dumb. They obviously expect Osuna to play

I thought they were on the hook for a great deal more than that for Giles.
Perhaps you're right and they investigated this and feel Osuna might be cleared?
Either way, the bats need to pick up. With Altuve on the DL every single damn guy except Bregman is down significantly from last year. I see bad AB after bad AB and guys pressing. I know the game today is predicated on the long ball and extra-base hits but for ****'s sake, just swing the bat and make contact and good things will happen. They need to relax and let their abilities take over because damn near the entire lineup looks uncomfortable at the plate.

Yep, hitting's contagious.
We have a few guys like Altuve, Bregman and Gurriel who are going to get quality ABs consistently, no matter what, but a lot of our talent tends to slump at the same time...probably because a lot of youth.
Grrrr.
We need our DP combo to get healthy at the same time, too. CC's not too far away, and he's a confident hitter and a leader. Been missed a lot, especially at the plate.

He's still in arbitration phase. After season, they could have been done with him.

Springer's OPS is down 100 points from last year and Marwin's OPS is off by almost 70 from his career average.
