Rail yard is just the rebranded Roll'N isn't it?

Of all of the great bars that have vanished, somehow the Lone star saloon continues to exist sitting on $150 dirt.

I threw up half a bottle of Canadian Mist under the table at Pucatan Liquor Stand.
I yanked in the mop bucket on that outside smoker's patio at Live Bait. Bet they were happy when they went to mop up a spill.

Only other in-bar spew was at Blue Planet. Painted the wall near one of the stalls. Didn't make it.

Someone jokingly threw a dart at his buddy that ricocheted off a chair and stuck me in the leg at the Ale House....good times.

Liked Houston Brewery better than Rock Bottom which was across the street...surprised when they both failed.

The bank vault made some good beers back in the day.

The original Hard Rock had a great happy hour.

Big woodrows...still have the big $1 draft glass somewhere.

Outback pub on big ass beer night

Can you tell I was on a budget?

I live a few blocks away from lone star saloon. Had no idea it was there for an entire year, but when I found out about it I started going all the time lol.

Any one remember the Pig and Whistle (pork & blow) on Richmond. Late 80's/early 90's. They had a semi regular Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin cover band we used to listen to.

Original Richmond Arms - next to the two story fortune teller house. Have a bar set of English beer mugs coming over the hedge.
6400 - cage dancing happy hours
Emo's - now a beautiful historic four story condo.
Original Warren's in Houston's original Opera house
Powertools - donkey night and the bayou balcony
Valhalla's and Marfrelas - cheap beer and dark kisses

Z Bar

The week before Christmas every year my Dad would take our family to meet one of his old friends and family there. The lady that ran the place, Marcia I think her name was, would kick out any regulars she knew were trouble or that would cuss around us.

She would give us kids a stack of quarters to play the centipede and bowling game. Also would sometimes give us a present. She would also ask if we wanted any of the posters on the wall, mostly beer advertisements with half naked ladies on them. My mother would always throw them away when we got home.

I was sad to hear how badly it went downhill in recent years.

Is that the place that had the coincidental 600+ pound doorman under "The Pig" sign?

Someone mentioned Emo's. It definitely lived up to its name with the clientele, but its history made it a creepy cool place to drink.

Outback Pub frequenters -- am I recalling correctly that there was a smaller, stand-alone bar with a nice outdoor deck in the same parking lot as Outback?

It was there this past February as had a beer there after attending a meeting on campus.

can't see any reason Valhalla would be gone. It's Rice property and staffed by volunteers.

I never made it to the original Warren's; I realize I missed out.
Power (S)Tools was a crazy mess. One time in there they had performance artists raid the place like it was a bank robbery or something. Another time they had a dryer tub spinning full of nuts/bolts making an awful sound. And the videos playing on the underside of the bridge out back one time was showing soft-core porn.
Marfreless has been around up until covid I believe - fortunately I have some extremely fond memories of that upstairs (and one time in the downstairs closet!)

There was also KCs across the street which was a run down dive bar. It's now called The Deck and still open pre-Covid. But there was also Magnolia on the corner.

I can't imagine it's gone. It's run by the Graduate Student Association so that's who works there. Dr. Loftin was actually one of the charter members for Valhalla.

In it's declaration/articles for organizing one of the stipulations is that it can't make a profit. That's why everything is so cheap. There would be a HUGE fight if Rice ever tried to shut it down. I imagine it's closed since the campus closed but it's not gone.

No, not Sam's or Magnolia. Remember both of those.

You know what, I may be thinking of Outback Pub itself. Was there a bigger club in the strip center where Outback was?

Patchy memory loss is real.

Yes. It's Prospect Park now. I think it was a Scott Gertner joint immediately after Outback.

Doing a little research to fill in my memory gaps and another by-gone favorite:

The Roxy

That place was crawling with sloots. It effectively closed (to me) years before it officially closed the doors, when its clientele changed.
