Great list... working in West U for almost 20 years, we just lived at a number of those places. Hell, I proposed to my wife at Kay's.

One of my friends / coworkers was simultaneously banned from Kay's, Volcano and Savage's at one point. We wore out the intersection of Kirby and Bissonnet.

Wow, please don't ever again go to West Alabama Ice House, Griff's, Lola's, Warren's, Shiloh Club, Rudyard's, Nick's Place, Shoeshine Charley's, or Cecil's. You seem to be cursed and I can't afford to lose any of these bars, especially with Alice's closing.

I would also like to add Ron's Pub on Fountain View, Nick's Place on Westheimer, or perhaps the greasiest of all the Molly's Pubs at Westheimer & Wilcrest.

When we would go to Kay's, we would ask Dave Ward to say, "Thank you, Marvin."

going back here -
Houston Avenue Commissary, was on Houston Ave near Bayland in what is now a dry cleaners. You can still see the door outside to the walk-in cooler from when it must have been an ice house. In the early 90's the place was a dive bar; I think the bartender must have lived in the trailer by the door.
I ordered a beer, delivered from an ice chest behind the bar. I walked through the smoke/fog to hear some strange talking in the back. Turns out 3-4 men were talking Cajun to each other. They were probably 70+ years old and definitely speaking Cajun. That was cool.
The place closed up sometime in the mid 90's.

A couple of places are missing:

The Local Charm, on Telephone Road. Owned by Rory Miggins.

Chelsea's 804. Saw a great show with Miss Molly and the Whips there.

Almost lost it when you mentioned La Carafe. Personally not a fan and don't patronize as frequently as I should but it is an institution. Really hope it can stay open should probably drop in to see how I can help.
