I don't understand why all the complainers continue to watch KBTX if all they want to do is look for ways to criticize it. I guess it's like people who like watching car crashes. KBTX isn't such a bad station, but only if you don't watch it. But keep watching and punish yourselves...

FlyRod Very active and one of the longest-running participants. Interestingly, he's not simply anti-KBTX. He has said he likes KBTX overall but prefers following its online coverage rather than watching the TV broadcast.

I have long thought FlyRod was Rusty. Hmmmm....

Spit out my coffee laughing. I'll share this with friends later who will find it as funny as I did.

Other then being men and both being annoying, we have nothing in common lol

Not the worst person I've been mistaken for here though. That would be the infamous "chalk boy." Or The Yelp Oracle.

Rusty we (TexAgs) must be loud. It appears that reliable fact-checking and grammar verification would be beneficial for your reporting.

Funny how KBTX has ran 2 stories the last 2 days about the medians. Seems like they are "blitzing" right before elections. Am I wrong?

The so-called "median" vote initiative in Bryan represents merely another inconsequential political maneuver by the Bryan council, designed to appease constituents in advance of the upcoming election.

Might as well vote for rain.

This.

Bryan is saying - We hear you and put it on the ballot. But, even if it wins, our hands are tied, so nothing will actually be done.

I won't get political on the wrong board, but while Rusty seems like a nice guy, his spam posting about the senate race has me on the verge of unfollowing him on all platforms.

We all know who you're voting for Rusty... give it a rest.

I thought the people petitioned to have it on the ballot. If the citizens petitioned, the city council's hands are tied (in both directions). They have to put it on the ballot, but also they can't actually do anything about it.

Also, the desired solution (removing medians) would involve more construction and would likely have more of an impact on the nearby businesses than leaving the medians in place.

True, but if the citizens voted to bring back public hangings, would the city put that on the ballot? There are limits to everything.

Based on how people responded during the live stream debate about the Ft. Hood execution, I believe it might be doable. Let me circle back to my rain analogy. I genuinely think I could gather enough signatures to get a 'make it rain' initiative on the ballot. Now would/should the Bryan city council go forward with it?

Texas State Law 2 A 9.004:

"The governing body shall submit a proposed charter amendment to the voters for their approval at an election if the submission is supported by a petition signed by a number of qualified voters of the municipality equal to at least five percent of the number of qualified voters of the municipality or 20,000, whichever number is the smaller."

The city council doesn't have a choice.

For the medians,
2800 signatures submitted.
2500 valid signatures
2300 signatures needed.

State law requires it to go on the ballot.

If you can dress your "public hanging" or "make it rain" referendum as an amendment to the city charter and can find enough signatures, it gets on the ballot. Not really sure why this is so hard to understand.

Btw, the "no median" referendum only applies to medians on Texas Ave from rosemary to 21. Apparently the no median crowd doesn't have a problem with medians on Briarcrest, villa Maria, WJB, or anywhere else TxDot put them.

I did not assert that it could not be subjected to a vote; rather, I am questioning the practical utility of doing so. I acknowledge that the council's authority is constrained; however, this reality does not alter the fact that the median vote remains merely a symbolic measure without substantive force. i.e. a waste of time and resources.

That's the stretch that most affects me so I'd be happy with at least those getting removed.
