The no registration part doesn't sit well. But in light of The Eagle's willingness to publish an editorial that all but excused Kirby's assault, it's not unlikely that she would have been found not guilty. If there's a silver lining, it's that by taking that sweetheart deal she can now be taken to task for the sexual assault she committed during a time when she was more likely to have her conduct excused by a jury since the child "consented."
As for Blinn's part, hiding behind leadership choices made in 2008 isn't doing them any favors. She was promoted to VP of HR and became the Title IX administrator in 2020. I find it hard to believe that Kirby flew completely under the radar in the same community where she sexually assaulted a child and everyone at Blinn was none the wiser until Rusty received an anonymous tip.
It's confusingly written but it looks like as head of HR, she was not head of Title IX but the head of Title IX reported to her.
So she got in trouble almost 30 years ago. Expunged from her record in an era where it was seen as less of a big deal (Saturday Night Live still makes skits showing female teachers with young male students and everybody is congratulating the male student). Hired appropriately with no foul play on the application 17 years ago. Puts in the time and gets promoted.
The attack point is the Title IX director reported to her.
She obviously met the court requirements for the crime back in the day. It looks like somebody had a grudge against her causing an early retirement through negative publicity. God bless her and her family in this difficult time. And God bless Blinn, they've done so much for so many down through the years.
