There are a few snakes that do that, namely watersnakes like you posted, but none do it to the extent of a hognose. It's still a pretty good identifier.

That broad-banded looks like he's smiling, a la Sir Hiss from Robin Hood.

Walked out the back door in Bastrop this evening to refill hummingbird feeders and found our cat face to face with this guy. Luckily the local relocator guy was about 5 mins away. He was extremely agitated the entire time I was waiting for them and even they remarked about how ornery it was. About a 4' western diamondback that had had at least one very recent meal.

No, for videos you have to upload to imgur and then use the share link with BBCode then take the img in brackets off either end of the link you copy.

If you pull up a post with a video in it, there is a "Grab a Link" window and that link won't work. Same with the "Copy link" in the upper right corner of the video. You have to click the three dots next to the "copy link" button (circled in red below) and pick "Get Share Links" and then chose the BBCode one. It will have a link that ends in .mp4 or whatever movie format you uploaded. If you put that one in using the add an image button on Texags, it will automatically display the video.

In talking to my neighbor about the rattlesnake, I found out she had a rat snake show up in a lampshade inside their house the other night.

So I went back through our nest camera footage and found the whole sequence of events. The zoomed in footage isn't ultra clear, but our cat burned at least two lives last night. The first vid is from about 5:33pm and is the snake catching a mockingbird that was coming to our bird bath dish on the ground.



The second vid is our 14 yr old cat walking up to him at about 7:08pm after my wife had just grabbed a hummingbird feeder from the pole about 6 feet away from the snake without seeing it.



And the third video is the cat stepping into the garden edge at about 7:10pm just inches from the snake right before I came out the back door and heard what was going on. You can see from the pictures above how close the snake was to the white rocks. I honestly have no idea how the cat did not get struck other than the snake was so full from swallowing the bird that it was not ready or willing to strike again.
