Got reservations today at Garner for the April 8th eclipse. Be bringing at least my oldest son with me and camping with my brother's family and their friends. Looks like Garner is almost smack dab in the middle of the path, 4 and a half minutes of totality!

Tried to get Enchanted Rock because I think the top of the rock would be amazing, but it sold out faster than I could click refresh.

Been a long time since I've been to Garner. We spent a few Christmases there in cabins. Back then, the entrance was off of 83. My mom would take us to the "old entrance" that she used when she was a kid. Now I get to be the old guy.

We'll be coming in from California. Not sure if we'll drive or fly yet.

Now just need clear weather!

A couple months ago I tried to book a bunch of different vrbo's, but every one of them had jacked the price like 400% for that weekend/monday. Decided we would just crash at a friends place in north San Antonio and drive up towards Johnson City monday morning. Gonna be an awful drive back to Houston on Monday afternoon.

They are projecting some pretty crazy number of people in the hill country. I hope they are way off!

My parents retired and built a house out in Round Mountain (about 10 miles south of Marble Falls). They're in the almost perfect location to get max totality. They have 11 acres out there and I can't tell you how many friends have reached out offering several hundred bucks just to come out and camp on their property the night before so they can see it. My Dad is old school (class of '70) and wants no part of random people coming out and camping on his property. He's going to smoke some BBQ and have family and a few friends out to their place, but he said demand out their way is crazy for this event.

I thought you had to be 6 months out for reservations, enchanted rock won't take them past March

It's 5 months, but you can push that 14 days farther if you reserve the whole block. Then later release the dates you don't need.

We're taking the kids out of school to beat the traffic. We're either watching from the West side of Mason County or the banks of the Llano near Castell.

All the rental places on the river are booked and I've seen advertisements for package deals from third party companies that claimed the rentals.

We will also be making sure that we bring plenty of booze, groceries, and ice because the little towns won't be able the handle the influx

You won't hardly recognize it (speaking as someone who spent ever childhood Labor Day there in the late 80s/early 90s.

We have a lake house in Tow on Buchanan. We're going to be right in the path and have 4:20+ totality. Should be awesome.

You'd have to find a campsite with availability from 25 March for 14 more days and book that entire block.

I'll be on my front porch in Bandera. 4 minutes and 5 seconds of totality.

Bandera is also having Ground Zero Music fest.

https://www.banderacowboycapital.com/events/2024/ground-zero-musicfest

They might still have camp sites available.

We will have 70 Water/Electric RV Sites and over 250 Self Contained RV Sites (from the website)

I just called them and booked it that way. E rock is down to primitive only, which is fine with me and they boys. The girls on the other hand are going to have to suck it up

Had this on the calendar for years. My parent's house in Hunt is right on the center path. My parents however are going to Hawaii that week. Maybe I should rent out their guest house, bunk house, and RV...

Already dreading the drive back home, it's going to be awful.

I am wondering if cutting down to 59 wouldn't be a better way to get back to Houston. It is a ways out of the way, but 10 and 290 are gonna be awful. 45 probably won't be much better.

We had a day pass for Garner for the Annular Eclipse a couple of weekends ago, but as we were driving down, it became apparent that the clouds were staying put down that way, so we just stopped on the side of the road south of Junction and watched from there.

For the 2024 eclipse, my FIL's place out near Boerne is within the path of totality, so we should get 3+ minutes of totality without needing to leave the property.

We should have over 4 mins of total eclipse here in Hondo. Crowds were non-existent for the partial eclipse earlier this month. Hopefully that repeats.

April 8 is a Monday. What are they thinking? I wish they would schedule the eclipse for the weekend.

I was told, all BNB and motels rooms have already been booked in San Saba. They said they have most of their reservations are with people from Vietnam and Europe. San Saba county is already warning property owners to be aware that there could be an estimated additional 100k people looking to camp out. Don't know how accurate the numbers are, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if there were temporary squatters to deal with.

Close to Boerne and planning on a house full. But rumors are local property is renting 2000+ per night with a 3 night minimum - sure is tempting to rent out the house lol.

I'll be at home with the boys. They have already canceled school in Wimberley for that day

100k? That's crazy. I just mentioned we'll be in Mason, but that makes me think I need to go out there just to make sure no one is inviting themselves onto our place.

Lowe's is gonna be cleaned out.

I've been told the same number by the law dogs in SS county. It's going to be a mess if that number is anywhere close to accurate.

Just booked mine too check in march 25 - check out april 8. In a few weeks Ill cancel the March 25-april 6. Park ranger suggested to do it that way too; otherwise it would be sold out if you waited until Nov 7 to book.

My kids were pumped to see the ring of fire 2 weeks ago in Corpus. I was in Colorado so I missed it!

Our family ranch is almost dead center of the path of totality, south of Evant. We also have one of the highest hilltops in the county. It will be a very nice, private place to watch an incredible event!

I'm on north LBJ and have a deck that accommodates 30-40. How much should I charge?
Kidding, I'm staying home and May entertain grandkids. Going to be horrible here and some may decide they like it here and stay.

I just did the same but was told that I will need to check with the park ahead of time and get permission to stay in past my checkout time on the 8th. I got a shelter for my uppity wife so I am all set thanks to this thread. I just really hope that they don't kick us out. I'm extremely excited.

Reveille Peak Ranch and Shooting Range has been rented to a private vendor who intends to camp 40,000.

Attendees from all over the world.

Pro Tip.....don't go to Burnett that day +/-1.

Check out is at noon I imagine you can just get to a bench/table for an hour. As long as you vacate your campsite I can't see how they would kick you out ! What if you're on a hike!

I thought that was an odd statement as well but it is what they said due to the eclipse. I have a hard time believing they would even be able to track me down anyways. I plan on taking the advice anyways.

I might extend my campsite one more day, even though I won't stay the night. Be nice to at a minimum, have guaranteed parking and protection from any overzealous rangers!

I have more'n a few acres of open fields ideal for camping, right on I-10 near Comfort. Starting to think about opportunities presenting themselves.
