I'm a local in Burnet and fortunately see only foreigners.
Last count four hippies OD'd last night at Reveille Peak festival.

That page is hilarious. Reveille peek ranch looks like a cross between woodstock and Burning Man. We went driving around after church in Lampasas, and the roads were dead. All the locals stayed home.

I wondered where Ren Fest people hang out when there is no Ren Fest.

That's the spot.

Texas 3-Gun Championship is at Revielle Peak Ranch in 2 weeks. Not sure how they'll get all that crap cleaned up by then. Looking at the map they've got campsites set up all over the place.

The Hunt Store has been normal all weekend, haven't ventured further into town that that. Both neighbors across the street have people camping out. One is a group of polo players that have been practicing all weekend. That's a bit of a problem b/c the best place for me to practice shooting is our valley right across the road from their polo field. Been trying to be nice and stop shooting when they come back out with their horses.

Yeah drive from CA to Vanderpool/Utopia yesterday and the roads were DEAD!

I'm on a ranch now with the Houston Museum, so I won't see the alleged hordes until tomorrow afternoon.

Are you on that Young Life ranch out there?

Yes, they are doing it at Camp Lonehollow.

Skies are clear tonight out in Utopia. Hope we can catch a break in the clouds tomorrow.

Fredericksburg was empty yesterday. No influx of people.

Still clear skies outside of Clifton. Maybe a good morning for turkeys too… hopefully.

Also 10 degrees colder than the forecast, weather people suck.

We are in Johnson City and the town is not busy at all. Not sure if it was just really overblown (likely) or if most pulled off because of weather predictions. Nonetheless, our rv spot is awesome and we are making some good memories.

We held off on going yesterday b/c of weather, but now it's saying partly cloudy at noon and 1 in Falls County, so we're gonna make the trip.

No traffic
Plentiful gas and groceries
No swarms of hippies from the metro areas taking over small town hill country Texas

The word yesterday was that sheriff was headed out to drug it down. Very Woodstockesque. Not as billed, chaos, bands backing out, neighbor complaints.

Have not heard anything today. Concerned if he does shut it down, those folks will bleed out all over the area.

Now they have news articles about how crowds were way less than expected. I guess I never really seriously thought towns were going to be overwhelmed. I hope everyone that came to these places for camp and do the eclipse stuff just chills and enjoys the experience and doesn't freak out and leave over the weather. It might hail, might rain, might not. Lol. Enjoy your family and camping anyway.

Sitting here at work in Dallas and it is very overcast. Downtown is wreathed in clouds right now.

Not a good start to Eclipse Day but at least we were waned 1 Zillion times by the local weather folks starting two weeks ago.

We didn't finish baseball till freaking 11pm in Houston last night. Drive back to Belton was a non issue.

Damn tiny rain shower came thru at about 5:30 and soaked the place delaying everything. Pretty sure it only rained in about a one square mile area which included our field.

Boys won which was awesome.

Based on the empty roads and campgrounds here in the north Arkansas full eclipse zone and reports from friends in NE Texas; a lot of Haitians are going to be wearing " Great Eclipse 2024" T-shirts soon.

From Burnet county sheriff office

The Burnet County Sheriff's Office has received the following notice from the organizers of the music festival at Reveille Peak Ranch.

Given that this event is being cancelled early, we expect a surge of traffic in the county to begin later this morning or in the early afternoon. Please be patient and avoid making unnecessary trips.

*****************

Weather Cancellation

Dear Texas Eclipse Guests,
We regret to inform you of the severe weather forecast, including risks of high winds, tornadic activity, large hail, and thunderstorms for later today, including during the eclipse, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Your safety is our top priority. With the support and coordination of Burnet County officials, local safety agencies, and The National Weather Service, we've agreed to end the festival today in a calm orderly manner.

Leave early for safety and to beat traffic. Guests may stay for the eclipse provided they pack and are prepared to depart after totality. This guidance may change based on weather.

In light of this decision:

Please begin packing and prepare to leave the campgrounds promptly.

Prioritize safety and responsible driving when leaving the venue, following traffic laws and weather advisories.

All programming and performances for Monday and Tuesday are canceled.

No additional guests will be permitted to enter the venue.

In-bound shuttles to the venue are canceled.

Our team is coordinating shuttle services and organizing groups for an orderly departure.

You will receive an email with a partial refund policy soon, addressing details and timing

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this process. Rest assured, we are dedicated to your safety and will provide ongoing updates.

If you have any special circumstances or ADA needs, please call us on 561-247-3339 for assistance.

Traffic headed north on 6 toward Waco is solid. Should be fun in Hearne.

Based on weather forecast, we're staying in Junction until after totality. Traffic might be worse through fredricksburg this way, but I think/hope we'll have a better viewing being further west.

Crowds are certainly less... None of the people I know that were driving out of Houston today left. I'm sure the weather has stopped huge amounts of people from traveling today.

Still, the biggest issue that everyone talked about really isn't until after the eclipse. Always was expected that people would trickle in over a wide period of time. The issue is really supposed to be gridlock leaving areas and I'm not sure that will materialize to any huge extent with the weather...

I'd rather everyone to have been overprepared than underprepared.

In the meantime now in Burnet county, we are expecting an influx of multi thousand unhappy hippies to descend upon our small towns. Hopefully they will safely and orderly return to Austin.
