You do you keep bringing up Y2K? There wasn't crazy traffic or even the worry of such. Everyone just waited to see if anything broke when midnight came.
really? It was a major blown out of proportion event. He's saying this will be the same. Not hard to understand

Was it really though? There were very legitimate worries as there was a ton of software running very important systems that would have crapped out had thousands upon thousands of programmers fixed date window and format bugs. It could have been a big deal and there was some nervousness when the first time zone hit 00:00:00 but nothing crazy.

Everything going in, out and along the eclipse path is going to be nuts Sunday and Monday. For the people and services living there it will be a major disruption.
stop being obtuse. It's quite obvious what he meant. you know it I know it everyone knows it

I am fairly bummed the weather does look pretty ****e I'm almost all of Texas in the path. What're y'all's thoughts on if it's worth traveling for ? What am I to expect If it's thunderstorming? Will we miss pretty much any view of the sun being eclipsed and basically just experience the skies turn dark very quickly for a few minutes?

I think it's worth going. If I didn't have a perfect storm impacting my life I was going to drive 13 hours one way for it. I did 2017.

It's not worth traveling too far for.

I live right in the center of the show and hope to get back from Houston on Sunday so I can watch it but if not I'm not too concerned about it.

I think the crowd estimates are vastly overblown in most places.

If I were going, I would pick a location away from the areas/cities where you pretty much know people will gather. Those nearer the interstate and major highways will be crowded. Might be a bit of a drive before and after the event, but likely not as much traffic once it is done.

But I am not going, might watch a video someone takes of the eclipse. Might not.

It's worth traveling for. Went to Georgia in 2017 and I'll drive wherever I have to to see this one.

I concur. If you are even remotely into this sort of thing, make the effort. I'm not saying I would drive across the country. But, I'll be making every effort I can to be in the best spot possible.

The next one will be in 2033- but you have to go to Alaska to be in totality. After that it's 2045, and the path of totality is Cali, Colorado, Okla, Ark, Miss. Just for some perspective, if you miss this one.

Has anyone started traveling yet? We head to Junction tomorrow morning. Just curious how crowded things are getting already.

I've been stuck in an office the last couple of days but people around Temple are saying the roads are getting busy.

We leave for Houston at 7:30am for baseball and are coming back Sunday night. I'm still pretty confident that the back road routes back are going to be fine on Sunday.

Report back afterwards and let us know. I'm curious if that is the case!

Scrapyards. We make an annual trip to Scrapyards and really enjoy it. Kids love it. Cheap hotels and good food.

Just retired. Got a free cruise offer out of LA to go through the Panama Canal.

Ship schedule changed to Lolly gag around the South American coast to view the entire eclipse. The boat is giving out solar eclipse glasses.

Guess that makes me a lolly gagger.

Hopefully the Captain knows geography better than you!

We made it from College Station to Junction this morning with no issues. You can tell all the wineries near Fredricksburg are prepped for large crowds. Porta Potties everywhere!

There was minimal traffic in Kerrville yesterday (Saturday). Breezed through HEB.

Drove from CS through Georgetown, Burnet, Llano yesterday evening. Honestly seemed pretty dead.

Lots of signs saying no highway parking.

Yeah drive from CA to Vanderpool/Utopia yesterday and the roads were DEAD!

I'm on a ranch now with the Houston Museum, so I won't see the alleged hordes until tomorrow afternoon.

Most people I know that had planned to head out of Houston to see the total eclipse have bailed. Not worth the drive to have so much cloud cover and kids missing school for nothing. the kids are probably more pissed about missing a day off than missing the eclipse!

Must be SOME hotel rooms available: we got a ad notice from the Inn on Baron's Creek in Fredericksburg this past week.

Personal knowledge, they had some scheduling issues and ended up with a bunch of open rooms. Then the weather forecast came out. Probably not an indicator of demand as a whole.

We did the same thing. We're in Mason. It was probably one of our quicker trips. Even if the clouds cover everything up tomorrow, the bluebonnets are a nice consolation prize.
