Im having fun with this one quite a bit and see myself playing it for a long time.
The controls are definitely wtf worthy. (I can tap shift twice to run until my stamina runs out on foot, but on a horse I have to spam shift? To change my armor I have to hold F2, but also hit E? Awkward That's just bad game design).
I will say though, even if its fun, will it be a memorable game and one that belongs in my top-all-time? Probably not.
They almost went out of their way to ensure that this game has no story. All I know is that Im a greymane name Kliff. What is a greymane? Who knows, the guys that were killed on the intro cutscene, but people seem to have a deep respect for them, somehow, as fighters. They also try to hilariously underline important peoples names in dialogue, but it's almost meaningless because there is no effort to build them as a character, they are just a named Mob. Most of the quests are just fetch quests and the combat, so far anwyay, is just faceroll and not difficult.
What it really hits is just the adventurer in me and having a huge open world. I'm good with just popping in, seeing where it takes me for however long I have and then saving at the end. Decent feedback loop, and you end up learning stuff you had no clue about after several hours in, which is fun.
I learned that if you ctrl (focus?) while fighting you can learn the skill that the enemy is using against you.
Im in this for the long haul, for what it is. And that's a pretty good game, warts and all (which the devs seem to be fixing quickly), overall.
