Also, I got the deluxe version and the upfront armor etc is worth it IMO. Feels weird looking so decked out to begin the game tho ha

Game is mid at best. Terrible story, disjointed world/setting, bland art design, and combat that's not even remotely compelling. Main character is just some generic design devoid of personality.

Totally unmemorable, if anything the review scores are far too generous. Checklist, middling, open world title that lacks any soul or character.

Some people do like it though so more power to you, just not for me at all. It's like another Starfield situation all over again but worse.

Sounds like you aren't far enough in, but I'm also just getting back into gaming after playing nothing but sports games for a decade. To each his own. The story is indeed mid, but the level of exploration and scale is 10/10

I would say the story arc in it so far reminds me a lot of something like No Man's Sky in that the story is teaching you to use the functions and abilities but is not the driver of the game.

It seems like so much was poured into the game that the story was kind of thrown together. I feel like some of that may be cultural as well given the Korean writers. A little more investment into Kliff's background would have gone a lonnnngggg way

I think I was expecting something different from this game based on the trailers. Something more like The Witcher.

I don't want my opinion to dissuade others, but I'm just not a huge fan of Bethesda style games or systems based games like KCD or Dragon's Dogma. I am more into narrative driven open world titles (GTA, RDR, Cyberpunk, Ghost series, etc).

I do however appreciate the exploration in this game, so I may come back to it after some patches and when my
backlog is low.

This title does seem to be a bit divisive, but those that love it really fall in deep so if you're one of those people, enjoy!

Torn. I loved Dragon's Dogma but I also love a story. Considering I have a few free games I'm still churning on from PS5 catalog I'm going to wait for some more patches. Plus, I haven't purchased a game at full price since Witcher 3. Takes a hell of a game and expectation for me to do that. This one could get there after a few patches maybe.

For those of you who have played Jedi Fallen Order:
does the wizard guy in the abyss in chapter 1 remind you of Malicos on Dathomir? Something about his movements and voice remind me of that character

My two favorite games are RDR2 and Witcher 3, so I was hoping for something along those lines, but the game didn't really pull me in and the controls felt janky. I'll probably give it a couple months so they can make patches and updates and will probably try it again.

First big patch notes. they are reacting quickly and a lot of these will help tremendously. good to see a game company be very in tune with players' thoughts and issues.

yep, this is why no one should have hesitation to buy right now. only going to get a lot better. I was having the ps5 map crashing issue personally and that's already been resolved

Reviews are hard to gauge. Even reading this thread, it seems like many who are down on it were coming in expecting something completely different than what the game actually is.

I think too many people think: "Open world? Must be the same as 'X game'". Which is a huge flaw in thinking. It would be like buying Microsoft Flight Simulator and then complaining it's boring because there isn't any aerial combat. That's not what the game is supposed to be.

Got my investment at the bank set up. Promptly lost 10% LOL. Will let it ride for a few days and see how much my account grows. Have a decent chunk of silver now so I can buy some good upgrades before I complete chapter 2.

Also, flying is fun!

game has gotten slightly better for me after getting used to more of the controls. Finished that excavator boss. Ok fight but to finish the quest, you have to kill a bazillion bandits. That seemed very unnecessary and a time waster.

listened to that video during lunch. either that's the most impressive dev team of all time, or more likely, they had received much of that feedback already from influencers and gamers who got advanced copies, as well as internal play. In either case, it shows their commitment to making this game. Given the scope, we know they were likely pressed to make that deadline, so I'm sure they released it knowing that a quick patch was coming just to get it out to the market.

spent an hour on that boss last night and got within probably 95%, only to get wiped out by a single punch with full health. I've since upgraded health, so will try again later. But, I'm encouraged to hear they're making the bosses a bit easier. There's nothing worse than games that are so over the top hard that you just give up and go to the next. I like a challenge, but still needs to be fun.

On that quest though, you can sneak around the bandits...not easy and not convenient, but I was able to. I didn't want to have to utilize too much food before tackling the boss

I though I could complete the quest by sneaking to the boss but that didn't work. Still had to kill a ton of bandits to finish the quest.

I hadn't upgraded health yet or actually anything else at the time. For the boss, just don't be greedy and also when it goes underground, just run.

I thought the boss fight was about right. I like soulslikes so I don't mind the challenge.

Yes, I think I've got him figured out now. it's just gonna take longer with getting a swipe or arrow in and then just running around a bunch. I was trying to stun him with force palm, but it's hard to time. people online say it's laughably easy if you do that, but wasn't laughably easy for me ha

You will be pissed to know (as I was) that instead of Ramboing it, if you had waited till your new camp was setup you could have sent the Greymane in to deal with it and help you.

Keep doing the storyline. The Marquis in the first town will help you get started on a new camp when you help him.

thanks guys, still on chapter 3, but like 15 hours in. I get too distracted with side quests and exploration ha. Has anyone tamed a horse yet? I'm on Priden level 4 now I think.

That's another thing that was a bit too challenging IMO. Taming was not too bad, but fishing and arm wrestling, etc. aren't super intuitive. You almost have to look up tips on how to do it. They're manageable once you do, but it would be nice to not have to go online to figure out how to do something nonstop.

There is all kind of **** you can do that the game doesnt tell you.

Tree in your way? Force palm it down.

Need to jump higher? You can force palm 3x after you jump to rocket upwards.

Need to hide? You can slide under carts, hide in hay, or climb up in a ****ing tree.

You can lasso a tree and pull it back to turn yourself into a catapult.

I've been mostly trying to organically stumble into these things, but there's so much that I need to do some research too. Are you stumbling on all of this, or looking stuff up?

All above was organic except for hiding in a tree or pulling it back like a slingshot.

something I'm beginning to realize is the process of building your character's abilities is WAY more in depth than I previously thought. You can get way off in the weeds of upgrading weapons and abilities to maximize your combat effectiveness and everything else.

Yeah I got greedy and used my early artifacts on attack stuff. Now I'm having to go back and upgrade health and stamina etc.
