The way I handle the camp/dispatches is to make sure I have security escort dispatches out all the time. I make sure I have provisions coming in and stone and timber coming in. It starts off kind of slow. But I got them up and running as soon as I had enough gathered from the rumor missions.
At some point you get "Contribution Workers" in Hernand, these are Greymanes that go with your named Greymanes and add work force #'s. So you can send one of your named guys and say 5 contribution workers on a dispatch and that mission runs.

I only do the trade wagon to the Goldleaf camp that is on the highland area with the GM Camp. I have dispatches out that get me silk and pelt. When I have a good amount of them, I run a load down there. It is quick and makes a good amount for the camp. I probably only do this every week or so in game time. So it is not very often.

The main thing is to be getting your money provisions etc from dispatches. That is what really pumps up those numbers and sets you up for later. Once it is running it is not very intensive except when you have to fiddle with it to fulfill a request like building a statue or some such.

ETA: Also the farm and ranch keep me with enough food for my character. But that is not necessary if it is too much grind as you can buy meals from your camp cook. (He can make any meals from the pubs that you have the goods and service contracts with.)

I got just over 30 hours in and restarted.

Somehow, I sold my original horse with all of its equipment and bonding while trying to complete the "sell a horse" quest.

Knowing that I need to actually read each pop up window now is making things so much easier.

Oh, there is a controlled jump featured that doesn't force me to jump as fast as possible and use my wings all of the way to the ground before I try the abyss puzzle again?

That would have been good to remember.

I'm currently in Chapter Two, just taking my time - is there a certain chapter that is a good balance between having good access to the game mechanics while not pushing too far ahead?

I see lots of talks of the camps, missions, and all of this stuff and want to get into that but also don't want to blow through the main story (mostly because I suck at combat right now and want to figure that out before I push too far).

Chapter 5 is when the camp and all that comes into play.

OK thanks. I will push the main story a bit and see how the world opens up.

I find myself hoarding my skill points because I have no idea what to drop them on and the only halfway decent weapon I've found is an axe, but I've always fancied myself a sword guy and not an axe so I'm holding out.

If you consider it cheating then don't, but do yourself a favor and look up how to find the soul spear. It's the best early game weapon you can have

I'm guessing that counts as the 2H weapon slot?

I honestly haven't even used that yet. Probably better for mobs and AOE?

Correct, 27 attack.
It's slow, but works well for bosses when they're stunned because it does so much damage. I've defeated I think 5 bosses now, maybe 6…and pretty much exclusively with the spear. Now that I've been refining swords, I'm turning to swords as I'm up around 24 attack and they are way faster and have wind slash etc

You find plenty of items that let you reset your skill tree so no worry there. You also gain some skills by playing the story and observing them in the field / battle, so you can get those points back by resetting your skills.

I am still working on Excavatron. I got him down to about 1/3 health on my best run. Trying to time the blinding flash but can't seem to get it right; only time I have been able to stun him is with my force palm.

weaving force palm and mixing light and heavy strikes into your battle flow is a big step. It is good to experiment with it.

I am probably overselling my strategy - I am definitely just kiting him and tagging him with arrows 75% of the time.

it's hard to time it to stun him, same for most bosses. I finally gave up on that approach and just ran away from him and popped him with arrows (preferably the multi arrow attack, forgot what it's called). Then I'd hit him with the soul spear when he would delay between attacks

When he starts to drill into the ground you can hit him with blinding light and it will stun him.

I fought Excavatron really early in the game. I remember just dodging his basic attacks and whacking a couple of times and backing off. If it goes underground, literally just run away. Didn't know there were other mechanics that could beat it easier.

67 hours in and just now started chapter 4. I think I've had a good balance of main game play and exploration though. I still have plenty of side quests in Hernand left to go. Hell, I even went back and started doing some of the very first requests and stuff that I'd skipped. It's funny being this far in and going back to do stuff like walk 50 yards and deliver a package to someone haha

Also I have no clue what I'm doing with my camp. I finally figured out how to have the 2 dudes start the construction project. No clue on the managing provisions. I keep just giving the dude overflow items and occasional cash

I've been trying to finish any side missions before ending Chapter 6 but quests just keep on popping up. It's endless. Still making me cook stuff. sigh... let's get on with it.

Upgraded some skills and added a little more health/stamina and it was a much easier fight. Working on clearing out the bandits next door now. There are a ton

be sure to farm a bunch of the mining knuckles from the bandits at the quarry and use them to upgrade each other.

How does one farm mining knuckles?
AgBQ-00

The bandits at the quarry will drop them like other bandits drop swords. so you can gather them during combat or if you have a dog they can gather them too. you can upgrade at the smithy by "using same equipment". Having one that is upgraded will give you chances to mine more ores each time.

I think this is right but wanted to confirm - in the stamina tree, when I upgraded my "sword and shield" skill to add the evasive slash, it worked for my axe.

So that top "sword" skill really applies to all 1H combat weapons combined w/ shield, and then the other tabs are specific to the 2H weapons, and finally the dual wield.

I don't find myself using my shield much. Is dual wield hard to master? I have always had a more aggressive playstyle so seems like it may be a better fit for me.

Your skills apply across your weapons. You don't have to upgrade skills per weapon. You can refine your weapons though at the smithy and with abyss gears at other places you may not have encountered yet

I've not even used the knuckle for mining yet. Is that something I should be doing each time I go to get copper/iron, etc.?

they auto collect the ore for you. so you don't have to find them if they fall down somewhere away from you.

ah interesting.

on a similar topic....when you find ore high on a wall, typically 2 of the 3 are gettable. Often times, the 3rd doesn't have a place to perch and stand in order to mine. I've been thinking I'm missing something there. Is there a way to mine while hanging or flying, or only standing?
CC09LawAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That alone is worth using it. It makes sense based on the location of some of the ore. I was like how am I supposed to keep this from falling off this tiny cliff?

This game is crazy. I can't imagine playing this with no access to the internet. I'd probably do 5% of what it's capable of.

You can axiom force blast it too if you took the skill.
