That is awesome! If there is any 'grunt' work that needs to be done (repetitive things that just need man hours) I have an 8 year old that is addicted to Minecraft and would love to contribute. If you have something that someone can send some simple guidelines I'll supervise him.

We both think that this is awesome. He just kept commenting over and over that you all have spent a lot of time on this and have 'mad skills' (his words).

Some of the things that need doing are the sidewalks/plaza and ramps around rudder fountain and the MSC. It's not to difficult and should be right up his alley. If you need any help to get started or run into some questions let us know. I will be over on the survival map for a few days taking a break from building. I got a little burnt out on the MSC, but I can jump over and help out if needed when I am on.

A couple of questions: right now he does all of his building on a iPad. I assume that he'll need to do it on our PC, is that correct? If so, not a problem, I'll download Minecraft for the PC. I checked the Minecraft website and I assume the latest version is the one I'll need to download?

There are a couple of steps you'll need to do to get connected to the server, but ETex can probably walk you through it.

This thread has a lot of good info on what you need to have and how to set it up. We are running off of version 1.4.5. http://texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=2123310&forum_id=30&page=&txa=r#r

There shouldn't be any issues with using the Ipad, but if there are then the computer will be the way to go. The desktop might make it easier to go from Google maps back to the game in order to get the dimensions and everything that you will end up needing to make the build to scale. Again the link above has a lot of the discussion in regards to scale and everything. Anymore questions post them and we will get them answered.

We just updated the plugins and server to 1.4.7

I'm going to download Minecraft this weekend and get my son up and running--he has been asking me every night to get it set up so that he can help build Aggieland.

I told him he had to wait until the weekend since he has homework to do during the week.

Getting errors with World Edit in 1.4.7

We weren't having issues last night... maybe try reloading the plugin?

Also - I screwed things up a little bit, the server crashed and we got reverted to a backup from a couple of days ago. It appears Aggieland didn't lose anything, but the adventure/survival worlds did.

We now have an auto backup plugin running to keep this from happening again.

My bad.

I very likely won't be on this weekend. I will be at a conference with family, but will try to look in via the server map.

Also, do we want to start a kind of sign up for the different buildings/areas around campus? I was thinking about working on Cain Hall as my next building. Then maybe Sabisa.

Wee_ag, I was gonna ask you about the back ups. I haven't had time look into managing the server as much, but I will look into it soon so you don't have to do all of the updating.

There's a plugin running now to do backups once or twice a day and auto-save when people have been on. There is FTP and dropbox support too if somebody wants to set it up.

As for backups, right now our host does a daily backup of what has been saved to disk. The plugin saves the world every few minutes so we at least have a daily backup through our host. If we want off-site backups, if anyone wants to setup an auto-ftp to download the three worlds, that would be great. I'm not able to do it since I don't have a home computer with dedicated internet.

I've also got a giant google maps schematic completed of the entire campus. Now, to figure out how to get it into the game...

I wouldn't mind hopping on to help out! I'm currently in the process of moving, so my time will be limited for a few weeks. I also plan on hosting my own server when i get some internet that doesn't suck.

plug - I'll get you whitelisted as soon as the server is back up and running.

I got all the changes made, uploaded a ZIP file to the server and lo-and-behold, there's no unzip/unarchive command on the server (there is an archive command though). I've tried 3 different FTP programs and none of them can unzip it, so I am currently in the process of uploading the unarchived version to the server... 737mb. It may take a bit.

How are we looking for having the server back up?

Took about 10 times longer, but the map is on the server. The layout is one block lower than the actual build, so build on top of it for the proper height.

The scale is a little off from what was already on the server, but a few world edit commands can move our existing buildings to their proper home.

This should make things MUCH easier to place and build.

(note: the web map is not updated yet to reflect the new changes)
