LVE being out there makes the defense better as a whole.

LOL, rewatching this play, thats the exact same scenario that they gave Philly 6 points.

Texans and Jaguars play each other next week too

Texans and Atlanta should win a few games, they aren't as bad as their record indicates. We should draft no worse than 4th.

At this moment I don't anticipate winning another game... I'm thinking we'll draft 2nd or 3rd overall.

The prob is that if the defense plays like that the rest of the year, they will win another game or two w Dalton.

I think one of the keys to turning around our defense is Donovan Wilson. From Day 1 he's been one of the best playmakers we've had in the secondary in quite some time. Diggs too.

I don't care about his weaknesses... find a legit free (coverage) safety and turn Dono loose. Attack the damn ball!!!

IMO we can build the secondary around Diggs and Wilson. Re-build the interior D-line and LBs and we might not be that far off with good coaching.

Well silver linings I guess. Diggs is going to be good and a playmaker. Definitely his best performance as a pro. Dono brought hope to the safety position. I thought he and Diggs played very well. Tank flashed and played well.

How does Steele continue to start at RT? I don't understand why they're so unwilling to move Martin out and plug in Looney or McGovern. Def your best 5 if they'd do that.
gigem1223

Agreed. Def need some horses in the middle. Hill and Gallimore are a start but Crawford and Woods need to go.

Legend has it Donovan Wilson is still being called for targeting in Kyle field to this day
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

At this point what would even be the point of Dalton coming back? This team does NOT deserve anything close to a playoff berth. Any further wins hurt us

what exactly did this staff see in Dinucci to warrant a roster spot?

To be fair, the defense he's going against in practice can make anyone look good.

It is strange because he had to transfer from Pitt, was really not that impressive his RS Jr year at JMU, but then did have a good year last year.

That said, having a guy that was taking snaps at FCS last year and then has no NFL preseason is just asking for disaster. He has no chance

Um, they probably saw a little Tony Romo. Main difference being Romo wasn't asked to start halfway through his rookie year after not having a legit offseason or any pre-season games.

I read somewhere that they heard he was leaning towards signing with a couple other teams if he wasn't drafted so they went ahead and grabbed him with their 7th pick.

Seems they liked something about him.

Dang.

Would have loved for the Cowboys to give a 6th for this guy?

Still hearing that Q. Williams could possibly be had with a 2nd. I jump on that all day long. I might even throw in a 5th or something else to sweeten the deal.

I know this seems crazy to be discussing, but I was just looking at the Cowboys remaining schedule and there is still a chance this team can win the east. Let's assume (I know it a big assume) that this defense has gotten a bit of their footing. They were much better last night (couldn't have gotten worse). The OL is healthier. They will get Looney and Knight back soon. Dalton should be back this week.

Let's look at the schedule

Pitt - L
Vikings - Toss up
Wash - Toss up
Ravens - L
Bengals - L
49ers - L
Eagles - Toss up
Giants - Toss up

Now, let's look at Philly's schedule:
Giants - Toss up
Browns - L
Seattle - L
Packers - L
Saints - L
Cardinals - L
Cowboys - Toss up
Wash - Toss up

I see the Eagles at 6-9-1

So the Cowboys, I think, could win the division at 7-9. Can the Cowboys get to 7 wins?

The Vikings just beat Green Bay...I don't see that as a toss up. Dalvin Cook could rush for 400 yards on our defense.

Washington beat us like a redheaded stepchild last time we played. Not sure how that is viewed as a toss up.

If Jimmy G is back and fully healthy when we play the 49ers, that isn't a toss up. They will beat us.

The Eagles beat us in a game where they turned the ball over 4 times. Even though we led at half, I never felt like we had a chance at winning that game. They are getting healthier. I think they beat us more handily next time.

We barely beat the Giants in a game where Dak played half the game. I don't feel super optimistic about that.

I think us losing out is much much much more likely than us winning those five games.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oh, I agree that us losing out is certainly within the cards.

Keep in mind, I made a couple of caveats. If Dalton plays last night, I think we win that game so the score really doesn't matter. One TD was a joke by the refs. We're ahead for much of that game and it's a one possession late even with dear in the headlights Nooch. One caveat was that Dalton is playing.

The other caveat is that our defense found a little something and starts to be somewhat decent, if not in spurts.

Agee with the Vikes. Cook is a beast.

Wash played good and our defense was awful. You think Wash is good enough to be counted on to play that well again? Maybe. Maybe not.

49ers are very up and down.

Next eagles game is at home

Giants suck just like we do so, sure, it's a toss up.

Not saying this will happen I don't think it's out of the realm of possiblity. This is the NFL afterall.

Why does Dalton win us last night's game? He was 9/19 for 75 yards and an INT against Washington with a 7.3 QBR. Against Arizona he was 34/45 for 266 yards with 2 INTs and a 35.1. Nothing about fire crotch's performances leads me to believe he was the difference maker last night.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Fair point, but nothing in Dalton's history says he's going to be that bad for any extended period of time. Keep in mind, that OL was a disaster against AZ. Last night they at least had Martin back and the running game was at least serviceable.

Steelers game is about to be a blood bath. I don't see us beating the Vikings, either. Our weakness on defense is the outside zone & dalvin cook runs that perfectly under Gary kubiak. Redskins game is a toss up but I don't see us winning against their DL. Ravens kill teams like us so that'll be a for sure loss. If we're 2-10 going into Cincinnati maybe we win there in a Dalton revenge game but idk considering Burrow has looked good so far.

We won't be better than 3-10 after those games.
DannyDuberstein

Last night we saw effort from some key veterans that haven't shown much this year, which is partly why the D looked better. But that will soon disappear again after a few more losses mount

Not so sure NYG is a toss up.

Yeah, the Cowboys made a mistake starting DiNucci against the Eagles. Watching him run around and throw sidearm was painful. The best thing for his development is to hold the clipboard and put in time watching film. His live reps need to come in the 2021 preseason.

What the Cowboys should have done is start Garrett Gilbert. At least Gilbert has seen an NFL defense. And Gilbert is not in our future plans, so there is no need to worry about hindering his development. Going forward, this should be their depth chart at QB:

Andy Dalton (once he clears concussion/Covid protocol)
Garrett Gilbert
Cooper Rush (once he clears Covid protocol)
Ben DiNucci

That is 100 on the ground...he has exceeded 100 yards receiving and rushing in 9 out of his last 16 games.
