What Obama's admin did was hostile toward the press. Obama is no longer in office. Biden is no longer in office.

What Trump is doing is hostile toward the press and raises First Amendment questions. And, to add to that, he's tried similar things before and had his decisions struck down by courts. I think trying it again further erodes trust in our institutions - trust that is required for a workable democracy.

But what the White House and your Congressman don't get to do is qualify your access based on your viewpoint. And they don't get to retaliate against you because they didn't like something you said.

Similarly, your local city can put restrictions on where and when people get to assemble and protest. What they don't get to do is approve and disapprove protests based on the viewpoint.

What Trump should do is stop the in-person press briefings altogether and instead go with an online statement where credentialed participants/reporters can post questions about it and the WH can selectively answer whatever questions they want - sort of like an online "ask me anything". If CNN doesn't like their questions getting answered then they will eventually have to ask better questions and not just shout out opinions and rebuttals.

The judge might as well go ahead and rule as we all know what his ultimate decision will be.

It took him two days to rule in the Acosta case, and then he didn't even get to the 1A issues. It was all based on due process, because that's a much easier ruling to make. I would imagine the same will happen here.
