The French are the ridiculous ones. Not a damn thing wrong sporting a Buccees hat. With the Buccee lovefest going on the World Cup is paying for our 2028 National Championship.

You know that the Buc-ees hat is going to be the must have apparel in Europe to prove you went to Texas for the World Cup.

That and Cowboy hats. The stockyards have been slammed with foreigners buying cowboy hats.

Pretty sure that is how they prove they visited Texas

BTW - I think this French girl sums up the essence of what makes America different better than anyone I've heard in a while

The root of her point is really about the slippery slope of freedom. We all give up a little of our rights every day with every law that gets passed. It is almost always something minor. But then it accumulates. And the more it does, the more you start to realize all of the freedom you have willingly given up over the years. That's where most of Europe is now. Its something young people also seldom realize because they haven't been around long enough to notice.

For an easy examples, consider the ease with which you can buy a gun in Texas versus New York or Connecticut

It is something we take for granted, but in NY and Connecticut, you basically have to contact your local police station to ask please, may I have your permission to go purchase a firearm? It's effing ridiculous!!

I interacted with a group of English fans who came to Jerryworld for their game yesterday. They were amazed they were able to find a cheap hotel ($70 a night at Great Wolf Lodge), the 'low' gas prices blew their mind (especially compared to San Francisco, where they also visited), and they said mostly everyone was polite (they did get thrown out of a bar because one of their friends was 'talking to' a woman, and her husband took offense, I didn't get details, but they seemed to blame their friend a little for that).

Tell that to half the people on TexAgs that absolutely hate Buc-ee's.

Been to 7 Buc-ee's in my travels. Never had their jerky until my last stop. Dear God, forgive me for never buying it previously. That stuff rocks!

Every time I pass a Buc-ee's I'm automatically stopping for at least a half a pound of western style peppered.

And maybe a couple of free samples.

I don't know man, for a gas station, I can't think of anything that comes even close. I'm a big fan of their jerky and enjoy both the chopped brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwiches. The homemade chips are delicious too and I don't know of any other places I can get the equivalent. Their breakfast tacos and burritos are great. I will never understand the people who slam their food...it's not designed to be a Michelin rated restaurant...just a place to get vastly superior food and snacks on-the-go compared to what the competitors (Love's, Valero, Exxon, etc.) are offering.

I think dunking on Buc-ees is just kind of a popular trend for some native Texans. I've got buddies who can't think of a nice thing to say about Buc-ees and I'll never get it.

Agreed, for grab and go it can't be beat. Their brisket burrito, if snagged soon after being put out while the potatoes are still a bit crispy, is solid, and if you hit it with the green sauce it's an absolute winner. Their take on a Cuban sandwich, with the dill pickle aoili is also not bad.

It'll never match up to a sit down joint, but as far as fast food on the go rates, Buc-Ee's is really hard to beat.

So many seem to really be enjoying our run of the mill chain restaurants. It really does make me think why there is such a pervasive and unspoken cultural stigma towards going to these places. Perhaps I should unapologetically go to Chili's more often...the food is good (not great), but it's fantastic for the price.

Same with Texas Roadhouse. I'm not going to a Japanese A5 Wagyu beef place, but I am going to get a pretty damn good mid-rare ribeye with a loaded baked potato for under $30.

I dont know, I've had a few meat lie in random gas stations in Louisiana that blow the socks off any food option in buccees.

But relative to just about any other know gas station- the food is indeed great. That doesn't mean its this amazing meal- even if it is surprisingly good for gas station food.

Bucc-ee's is the size of an average American grocery store, which is already bigger than any market most Europeans go to, so the sheer size of a Bucc-ee's is going to awe any European before they even touch the food.

As for regular restaurant fare, I had an aunt who lived in Paris, and she always commented on how big food portions are in America versus France. I'm sure that also influences European viewpoints, and underlines their idea of America as a land of abundance, I mean, "Look at all this food!".

One of their quirks was everything organized crime to them is 'the mafia'. They have visited Las Vegas, and they know who Benny Binion is, so I was explaining the history of organized crime in Dallas, and how Binion ran casinos downtown, and why his numbers racket was so lucrative. I had to explain that Dallas' sheriff at the time (who was on Binion's payroll) blocked any attempts by the actual mafia to move into Dallas.

I guess in the UK, all organized crime is related to the Italians.

On the way back home with a layover in dfw. Sitting at bar with guy from Toronto who came down for soccer ball. Said he loves everything, hit all the bbq points. Missed out on buccees, but was blown away with how great things are in our state. Glad we are representing the best of us.

i havent ever had any of their breakfast tacos before, so I looked it up to see and man that does look good. Ill have to get one next time i roll by a buc-ees.

In looking at what it was it seems that the Hippo Taco originated at Nena's in Lake Jackson and Buc-ees may have licensed it from them, which is why it is so good compared to normal offerings. The Nena's restaurant on their website has a graphic that proclaims that they are "Home of the Original Hippo"
i'm sorry i dont laugh at the right times.
