Probably so..........

I do think that French guy Louis XIV, the Sun King, had a nickel or two in the bank when the Palace of Versailles was completed.

It would be nice to know what his net worth was in today's dollars.

Maybe we have an Aggie wizard that can convert it.

TIA

Grok:

"Louis XIV left France with massive outstanding state debts at his death on September 1, 1715. In the absolute monarchy of the era (where "L'tat, c'est moi"), there was no meaningful separation between the king's personal finances and the state'sthe royal treasury was the state's, and the monarch bore responsibility for its obligations."

Granted, being broke and being a broke King are two different things.

The SpaceX valuation is ludicrous from a fundamentals standpoint. This is a stock that would have never even been allowed on the NASDAQ had the NASDAQ not capitulated and changed their own rules to allow it. ETF funds and retail investors are going to be hosed.

everything is ludicrous from a fundamental perspective now.

It's all hype and theoretical future hype.

Is it though? Launches are huge money without even touching starlink. Space mining on asteroids could flip entire monetary systems

literally NO ONE has been discussing

what happens if Musk can build data centers in space-

wouldn't that then destroy all our AI data Center stock holdings here on earth?

are they going to need Vertiv in space?!?!

Elon is a modern day Howard Hughes.

Both were/are known for their very obvious eccentricities...but they're also genius, and have moved technology forward, more than most men before them.

Aviation still operates based on many of the innovations by Hughes...and Elon is doing the same thing, in multiple markets.

They're odd, but we need people like Musk/Hughes, to move us forward.

Their revenue is similar to Kellogg (the cereal company) and they lost billions of dollars last year.

Their valuation puts them closer to a combined coca-cola, mcdonald's, starbucks, and nike. It makes no sense.

This is a forced investment scheme designed to pump and dump onto institutions and passive investors. It shouldn't be allowed for a company that has such crappy financials.

Is the entire Democratic party built on coveting thy neighbors wealth?

Yes.

But there is more to it than that....

This is such a fascinating phenomenon.

The people who rail the most against wealth inequality are people like Kimmel, Billie Eilish, Lewis Hamilton, or Bernie Sanders, people who are all incredibly rich.

It took me a while to finish my post, so posts like this got out firs, but go look at it. It answers your question nicely. This people are all paupers compared to Elon.

Your post was well thought out.

You are right they are paupers compared to Elon, it is still funny to me that the people who tend to be the most upset about wealth inequality are people who are worth tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars.

I get that the gap between them and Elon is far greater than most of them and the common man, but I would argue most of them have standards of living closer to Elon's than the average joe.

An IPO which skipped the institutional investor vetting, couldn't qualify under prior NASDAQ rules so they changed the rules for them, and launched at over 100x earnings with an early cash out rule exception for insiders is concerning as hell. If people want to invest in a company like this then all the power to them.

But if you are an institutional investor or someone with a 401k you are now forced to invest in an overvalued and unprofitable company because they are listed in a major exchange. The entire NASDAQ is going to ebb and flow based on this one stock.

This is all just becoming a big meme.

I've been Thinking about your last comment since Clay & Buck brought it up a few minutes ago (whichever one's on the air today). This is an unfathomable amount of wealth. This post really isn't about policy, it's about understanding truly how much money thi is.

If Elizabeth Warren's 2% wealth tax went into effect, poor Elon would only have $1,029,000,000,000. I keep pointing people to this website: https://eattherichtextformat.github.io/1-pixel-wealth/ But I want to try another tact, so I had AI run some numbers for me. I put in my dream life.

...
And I didn't even get to the part were DOGE did a great job dismantling all of the regulatory agencies overseeing his companies.

That is a great summary of what poor people think wealth is, and yes, that is mostly due to envy. That is why poor people do not have it. The purpose of wealth is to be a steward of it, not to be consumers of it. The parable is true that what the servants who prove responsible stewards are given more and what little is given irresponsible stewards is taken from them and given to those who are.

The irony of your mental exercise is that your house is probably much nicer than what Musk actually lives in.

You are completely, completely missing the point. Why should we leave him alone and let him keep doing his thing? Because his combination of vision, drive, and insanity minted thousands of new millionaires today. Because it's tackling some of the most audacious challenges in the world today. If we follow your "waaaa he has too much money" sense and tax 2-3% of his wealth a year, then in a decade he no longer controls his visionary companies. Will the people that replace him have the same skills and vision? Will they have the daring and lunacy to try to put data centers in space and build a permanent moon base? Will they mass produce humanoid robots that fold our laundry and do other boring crap we don't want to do? No.

His companies are making the world a better, more interesting place, and everybody that gets close to him, even the cafeteria ladies, are earning life changing money. Don't you dare kill our goose who's laying golden egg after golden egg because you're jealous and think his shares of the companies he started are too valuable, especially not to give the confiscated money to a government of incompetent idiots who have demonstrated time and time again that have no idea how to manage anything.
