Looks like a Ballistic Missile that was likely partially disable by a defense system

I suspect the strong support of the Iranian people for change was a significant factor in Trump ordering the operation.
God speed to our military, the IDF, and even the Iranians who want freedom from tyranny.

I was gonna say - are we just flying totally uncontested in their airspace!?agent-maroon said:
So we're flying B2's in broad daylight without any particular fanfare. Let there be no doubt that we & the Israelis own their airspace.

#3 has always been the issue. Rest of those are meaningless.

This
We don't want to occupy Iran
We want a strong pro-US civilian population ready to take the reigns and replace the Mullahs
There has never been a better time in terms of their civilians finally having enough and ready to topple the regime

I don't know about B-52. We have several bunker buster munitions (as does Israel) that can be carried by smaller planes. I believe Israel used their F-15s against Hezbollah's leader last summer and just pounded the same spot with multiple bombs from multiple planes.
We also have the B-1.
Quote:
Other Aircraft Considerations: While the B-52 Stratofortress and B-1 Lancer have the payload capacity to carry the MOP and were used in testing, they are not currently configured for operational use with this weapon. The B-52 was used in early MOP drop tests, but neither it nor the B-1 is considered survivable in the high-threat environments where the MOP would likely be needed. The C-130 Hercules and other large transport aircraft have been theorized as potential platforms, but such modifications remain hypothetical and impractical for combat use.

Some very early reports that Iran was able to scramble some Mig-29s but nothing confirmed. Good information coming out of Iran or anywhere else is difficult to find.
Israel had freedom of the skies after day one of their strikes over the summer. Iran has a lot of homegrown air defense systems that were basically copycats of Russian crap and they failed spectacularly last year.
I think the assumption was China had given them some stuff but Chinese anti-air assets have exactly been reliable either,

In the bigger geo picture, this is about:
1) cutting off Iranian support to terrorists like Hamas and Hezbollah and Houthis that destabilize the region
2) Less military support to Russia
3) (Most important) Another major supplier of Chinese Oil (along with Venezuela) no longer available
