Are there any polls at all dealing with a head-to-head match up with Hunt and Cornyn in the primary?

Just a 3-way poll I'm aware of. But this was before Paxton's wife's divorce announcement which is pretty easy to read as he was cheating. That will cost him dearly with the evangelical votes.

Thx, I guess Hunt could mix it up still, but I've seen no indications yet he has the money/backing to pull it off. Of course, a Trump endorsement could shift all of that in an instant.

Hunt, 43, who is African American, a West Point graduate and a military veteran, is only in his second term in the U.S. House but has worked to get close to President Donald Trump, especially as a leader of Black Republicans. One of the TV ads by the independent pro-Hunt group, Standing for Texas, ran in the West Palm Beach, Fla., market, where Trump's Mar-a-Lago home is located and where its intended viewer saw it.
"I love your commercial," Trump told Hunt at a White House event in April.
The ad calls Hunt "a fearless America-first Republican who stands with President Trump to put Texas first."
Hunt has reportedly met with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and other White House aides about entering the race, according to the Associated Press. His entrance in the race could further complicate an endorsement pick by Trump.

Yes, that is what I think. I believe Paxton has no shot now. His divorce news saga will kill financial donations and his shot not just in the primary but also the general.

Paxton's not throwin' away his shot.

It's definitely going to harm Paxton's campaign, and in a big way. Two, really; (a) his donations/fundraising will drop, and (b) Cornyn's backers will slam him viciously over the next 6 months.

It was a development that was as expected as it was laden with potential political opportunity for Cornyn, who is running behind his opponent even in a survey commissioned by the McConnell and John Thune-tied PAC, Senate Leadership Fund (SLF). Paxton went through a messy impeachment fight in 2023; he survived, but in documents published as part of the process, Uber records showing him traveling to the residence of an affair partner were made public.

Make no mistake: this is going to get ugly. Even if Cornyn himself doesn't jump into the gutter, the groups tied to him and his allies happily will, as they try to use Paxton's long history of personal and political scandals to weigh down and ultimately defeat the attorney general and would-be senator. The Texas Senate race is one (though not the easiest) of the avenues for Democrats to of the Senate next year, a crucial step in halting the president's legislative agenda.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) was the first dive in on Thursday. Like SLF, the NRSC is closely tied to GOP leadership and works to protect incumbent senators as well as back challengers to Democrats.

Do the Dems want to face Paxton in the general ? She saying this knowing it will hurt Cornyn in the primary?

Note: conservatives should not care who the Democrats would want to face. Vote for the most conservative candidate that has a chance to win. As of today, that's Paxton.

This far out, we are going to see wide variety in polling and to me they won't show much.

So I'll believe the ones that fit my preconceived beliefs about the race.

This is fundraising season.

Every candidate is pushing stories and polls in attempt to gather the most funds. With the most funds, the goal is to bully out the other candidates well before the primary.

Pretty sure that both Cornyn and Paxton have enough funding to make it to the primary and they are trying to keep the smaller players out of the race.

Unless, of course, the Dems end up only having one candidate run in their primary. Then they could vote in the Republican primary in an attempt to help Cornyn.

News report accuses Texas AG Ken Paxton of affair with married 'Christian influencer'

Quote:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a key Trump ally now running for U.S. Senate, is accused of having an affair with a "Christian influencer" he met last year, according to a report from a UK-based media outlet.

The Daily Mail reported Friday that Paxton had been "caught in a shocking sex scandal" involving Tracy Duhon, a 57-year-old author and mother of seven. She's the former wife of a Louisiana-based businessman who owns the Premier Automotive dealership group.

Paxton, 62, met Duhon at the 2024 Kentucky Derby when she was still married, and the pair stayed at the home of a mutual friend during the visit, according to the Daily Mail, which cited "multiple" unnamed sources allegedly familiar with the incident.

Citing those same sources, the Daily Mail reported that Paxton and Duhon often took trips together without their spouses' knowledge, including jaunts overseas.

Two months after the Kentucky Derby, Duhon filed for divorce from her husband, according to the report.
Paxton's wife, Angela, a Republican state senator, filed for a divorce of her own in early July, stating in a tweet that she sought the breakup of their 38-year marriage on "biblical grounds."

"I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation," Angela Paxton wrote. "But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage."

The Daily Mail report is only the latest political baggage for Paxton as he takes on incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in next year's GOP primary.

The Texas House voted in 2023 to impeach Paxton over allegations of bribery and abuse of office, however the state Senate ultimately decided not to convict. Among the complaints of misconduct were accusations that Paxton had an extramarital affair with a woman he later recommended for a job with a key political donor.

Newish. Came out last week, but got buried by the Charlie Kirk shooting.

This is probably why his wife filed for divorce.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill
