The idea behind making them meet remote is to cut tax payer costs. If they don't meet in DC, there is no reason for the tax payer to pay for them to travel to DC. I've also seen suggestions that they should also only be paid the median income of their represented district but I didn't originally mention that because we were talking about locations.
