He probably also thinks Trump illegally took classified documents and that Trump doesn't have a right to fire employees in the Executive Branch.
So help me make sure I have this right....

DOGE is not a new department, it's a repurposing of an existing department, part of the Executive Branch of which POTUS is the head, and all the departments and agencies they are going after are Executive Branch.

If so, what is unconstitutional about any of that?

Just want to have proper ammo for any arguments that might ensue.

It is not unconstitutional, it just doesn't fit the communist playbook.

Yes you did.

Which is why all of this gnashing of teeth and rending of garments about it is over the top stupid.

Nothing. They're just throwing a fit and trying to prevent Trump from governing. They're trying to deny the millions of voters who elected him their representation. They're stalling in an attempt to run out the clock. It's what they do.

They truly believe the government belongs to the left and to millions of unelected bureaucrats.

Is anyone else worried about the NIH indirect fund cost potentially killing our university? Same with the freezes
Nope.

70,000 students, super high tuition costs, lots of commercial investment into basic science that might lead to mid-term innovation.

The only people that work at TAMU that should be worried are administrators and useless humanities professors.
One line item on the tuition bill called University Advancement Fee is $1650 per Student per Semester.

In 2018 it was $600

Do that math.

The President is the CHIEF EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY of the United States under the Constitution.

these Departments and Agencies are part of the EXECUTIVE Branch of government

hence, all are under the command of the President of the United States

who has delegated oversight and audit authority to DOGE

Just to add to everyone's understanding of what is being covered up by the State AG case filed in SDNY where they got the TRO at 1:00 am on Saturday.

The system that they are trying to protect is the one by which the Dept. of Treasury pays funds out to various beneficiaries. The payments total $5 trillion per year.

Wouldn't it be interesting to unlease AI via an algorithm on that data stream?

The DOGE kid in question -- Big Balls -- was allowed access to the payment system's code in a "sandbox" format. Best I can figure out is that means he was able to copy parts of the code into a program where he could play around with it and get it to generate specific information in response to specific algorithm instruction.

So, I suspect that if given more time, he would have been able to generate a stream of payment history similar to what was spit out over at USAID but on a much more MASSIVE scale.

Much of that payment history is funneled through the Blue State governments in which the Plaintiffs are Attorneys General.

I heard a great description of this on a podcast yesterday -- what the progressive left is realizing is that people are starting to recognize the fact that this is their money being sent out by Democrats through a high pressure fire hose.

I don't think they put the code in a sandbox but more likely he was able to get the data into the sandbox to run his algo against the dataset. The process typically involves creating a mapping of PII and or PCI data to the hashed values and then send the dataset with hashed values to the sandbox so there's no privacy concerns.

Great on Musk for bringing this to light, but Johnson is the shining example of who in Congress should be blamed. Talks a big game but screws the people over when push comes to shove.

He himself is putting forth CR's that keeps funding those very departments that hide info from Congress, when he could cut that in short order and make Congressmen put their votes on the funding issues in public.

Agreed. I'm getting a Paul Ryan vibe from Johnson. He'll talk MAGA but work for the establishment.

Missing the point, but I don't know what I expected coming here to ask if anyone was worried about the school affiliated with this website being affected by politics.

What's the conservative hang up on the NIH and COVID anyways? Please enlighten me as I'm out of the loop on this one
I am not going to make an assumption about your political beliefs, but this line of thinking sounds exactly like leftist projection.

Since THEY can't imagine living without confiscated wealth via big government then they assume everyone else should feel the same way, hence all the meme ridicule at lefties posting "See what you did? I hope your happy with your vote now" type content.

ETA: If A&M suffers because they grew too dependent on tax dollars and exploiting students via tuition and taxpayer backed loans, then so be it. It deserves to suffer. It will be better after the pain.
I don't put myself in a particular group. It's just weird that he focused on COVID instead of the issue I was here to actually discuss. So really, his post tells you more about where his line of thinking lies. I'm legitimately out of the loop on why conservatives are mad at the NIH, specifically.

I appreciate your response though. I'm shocked by how many people would be okay with A&M failing. I'm genuinely worried about this. I think things are about to crumble, but I guess that's what a lot of people also want based on these responses so whatever I guess.

But also, I'm not really discussing loans or tuition. I'm talking about the funds that are provided by the NIH to help keep the lights on and that is a major source of funding for these schools in making us dominant in the research space. This is a lot of money that the institution was/is counting on. I don't see how crippling our research sector really helps our economy unless we just want it all to be entirely privatized. Profit seeking doesn't always result in the best science being done.

Net worth greater than 20x of salary seems like a reasonable start.

Net worth 5x'ing while a civil servant is another good metric.

I love that knowing grin on Trump's face when Musk says they are likely getting wealthy at the taxpayer's expense. I bet they already know exactly what has been going on and can prove it if push comes to shove.

Trump has to be the happiest guy on the planet that Musk can take some of the arrows and let him work in relative peace and quiet.

Here's the problem with your strawman…

Ds and some Rs have worked to hide their corruption…they'd never attempt to uncover what they've been hiding…

Nice try, though…I enjoy a good chuckle…
