All else equal, what do lower standards for work/life balance make them? The answer is more productive.

And you are wrong about the source of Vivek's wealth and you have no idea what he knows or doesn't know about engineering and probably have no idea whether he has ever even claimed to know about engineering.

Perhaps some do that. I studied Computer Engineering because I found it interesting and was pretty darn good at it. I graduated top 10% of the class in my graduating year and had no problem finding a job in a horrible job market after the tech crash. I also worked my ass off afterwards to get to where I am (i.e. lots of years at 60+ hours per week). I haven't worked in tech for pushing 15+ years though.

Perhaps I don't have a ton of sympathy for those who studied the same thing that I did that couldn't cut it. Sure, the market is different now than it was post tech boom but it hasn't changed that much. You are just forced to compete in different ways.

Honestly... a degree, even an engineering one, shouldn't be a guarantee to anything. I know and have worked with a bunch or worthless US trained, white engineers.

But I listened to his answer to the reporter and also read his tweet and I fail to see where in any of those he makes this a white vs. non-white thing. It's a take on the American culture, which is much more nuanced and complex than just looking at two races.
