My kid who was valedictorian of her class was bullied and treated like dirt by her classmates from 1st grade on, while the kids who couldn't read but could qualify for state in athletics got parades.

My son was the snart guy who never got in trouble on the football team.. and was treated like dirt by his teammates and coaches. While the trouble makers who never made over 50 on a test had their grades changed to passing and were constantly bailed out of trouble they started to keep them eligible to play football.

And I also remember back to junior high when I got tired of getting my ass kicked every day for constantly having the highest grades… I started missing a few questions on tests on purpose, just so the teachers wouldn't congratulate me for working hard and earning the highest grades… and getting my ass kicked after class.

He is absolutely right that our cultural priorities are fubar.

That sucks. I'm sorry your kids had to endure bad behavior by others. It boils my blood. I was a football player and a good student. We had one ahole on the team that was a bully. One day I say him slam a friend of mine, who was on the chess team, against his locker. I laid the POS out and he never messed with my friend again. The real reason that training hours are long and that it lasts multiple years is because to be a well-trained physician, you have to be around when the rare conditions present themselves. If you only treated horses then you can get away with a 40 hour training workweek, but you AND the zebra are going to be SOL when they come in with an emergency.

It is not something I am 100% familiar with, but I have heard friends in the medical field mention cap issues.

I think most doctors, all things being equal, would prefer to work less than 80-100 hours a week. If dedicated, I think we could find a solution that does not sacrifice quality of training.

My issue is that they can still get that, with remote employees out of the country. It's super common. But it's easier for them to import.

It's not much different than when people were importing cheap labor to lay train rails, or build infrastructure. It's just the modern, high tech version.
