My kid who was valedictorian of her class was bullied and treated like dirt by her classmates from 1st grade on, while the kids who couldn't read but could qualify for state in athletics got parades.

My son was the snart guy who never got in trouble on the football team.. and was treated like dirt by his teammates and coaches. While the trouble makers who never made over 50 on a test had their grades changed to passing and were constantly bailed out of trouble they started to keep them eligible to play football.

And I also remember back to junior high when I got tired of getting my ass kicked every day for constantly having the highest grades… I started missing a few questions on tests on purpose, just so the teachers wouldn't congratulate me for working hard and earning the highest grades… and getting my ass kicked after class.

He is absolutely right that our cultural priorities are fubar.

Not sure what part you're from but, the only city I can see being very racially diverse is Houston. Dallas and FW are still predominantly white, so is Austin, and San Antonio is still Mexican/white. Toronto, SF and Parts of the NE have seen more of the change IMO

Nothing. It's interesting in the context of college admissions into prestigious engineering and business schools. I've seen many on here complain about "well rounded" kids not getting admitted in favor of nerds who didn't play sports etc.

I would consider the medical industry critical infrastructure to an extent, and I still think there is a solution to the problem. Doctors are in a completely different category than most other industries and longer hours might be unavoidable where other industries would have a much easier time cutting them down.

The rush to pay off loans and get your certs does make sense, but I don't see why it should be industry standard for tech workers to work 80-100 hour weeks. A 100 hr work week leaves you enough time every day for 6 hours of sleep and a shower. Not healthy for any worker, and definitely not preferable when you have someone's life in your hands. I would much rather my doctor have 8 hours of sleep over sacrificing their mental/physical health to get out of debt quicker. Unfeasible at the moment, but a goal to strive towards for sure.

I just hired 2 engineers. One ME and one EE this year. Both were from TX. Both went to A&M system schools. Would have hired Ags if any applied.
