I see it. Most on here tonight seem more concerned with exploding brains on msm and libs than what is best for our country. This guy isn't it.

If his only qualifications was fox news host then I would be concerned. Thankfully he's a 20 year vet retired major with combat experience. Far better than the litany of beaucrats that served in this post over the years

So the current SecDef (Lloyd Austin, 4* GO who led in Iraq) must be great by your standards, right?

If Lloyd Austin was aligned with Trump on his beliefs on the military and foreign policy, but he's not. Alot has to do with the fact that the president dictates the policy.

Do you know how many flag officers and those with other executive experience endorse Trump? Many…here is a list of just a few. All guys that hate DEI. https://flagofficers4america.com/

There is more to be done than get rid of woke in the DoD.

Trump has a mandate right now and Republican controlled congress and MAGA is how things are going to roll for the time being.

If it goes really well, great. If it is chaotic and things don't go well, then the incumbent administration and party (now Trump and the Republicans) takes the blame and the blue team will take back part of Congress as well as eventually POTUS and things flip flop back in the other direction.

This is how the U.S.'s two-party political system rolls; the country flips back and forth between the red and blue team control as the card deck is reshuffled every 2 and 4 years.

It's the red team's turn in the batter box now.

I mean that's great and all, but can we have some more qualifications for a guy that controls the military 24/7.
His qualifications are GOOGLE.

He's not a lib, so there's half his qualifications.

Maybe. I don't know, nor care honestly. I'm more speaking to the character traits and track record of judgement he's laid out in his recent past. What his forgiveness level is with all 3 wives, all 7 kids and God is not my business.

It just makes for a very curious appointment. Heck, Trump considered appointing him head of the VA in the first term, twice. Didn't make the cut but 4 more years hosting on Fox and perhaps an additional book changed that.

Plus you seem biased and judgy about his past mistakes. Let it go, God has.

It's more his judgements. Without a resume of any organizational leadership or management (other than a platoon leader), you are left with looking at ancillary items like his personal life. Like books he's written and the words within. Like things he's said as a host on a morning show. That's all you have.

I love his passion and support of the military and vets. I have a whole facebook feed of friends that match or exceed his qualifications.

That's all. Not my decision, nor trying to convince you. Just explaining my personal thoughts and opinion.

A confidant of mine who spent his whole career in the military has told me that everybody above Colonel is worthless. That they all have to be yes-men politicians to rise to that level.

That makes me like this pick more.

You start gutting personnel that supported. You begin rebuilding the culture to get past it. You begin enshrining a culture that doesn't need it. It's bigger than a one day job. The military needs to be gutted and rebuilt. That will take a vision and someone willing to change.

I don't have a confidant, but have served with some of these men. And they are continuing to serve. I can say your confidant is painting with too broad a brush. So much of that is tied to personality. There is a whole group of retired generals and admirals that signed up to support Trump. To some extent, the senior leaders actions are a product of their CEO (the President). Just like in any other business. But I would be careful to paint with such a broad brush. There are some badass war fighters leading today. Lopping them off would be like "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

Cool…he survived.

Chris Miller, Wilkie, Bridge Colby…all VASTLY more qualified…AND confirmable.

There's a real chance Hegseth bows out before the process even starts.

Hegseth it is then!!!

If K2 is opposed, then he is absolutely the right pick!

I literally gave you three other people who Trump was considering who are VASTLY more qualified than Major Pete.

But they are not VASTLY more qualified.

Yeah, Pete's a scholar, patriot, business man, author...he has more qualifications than George Washington did when he created the DoD (Dept of War). But, yeah, let's worry about what the powder puff class says about him.

I mean, it could be a disaster...we could end up with spy balloons flying over the country, disastrous pull-outs from warzones, Russia invading Europe, Iran expanding, Pentagon leadership that lied for 20 years about what was happening in Afghanistan and Iraq, a recruitment crisis, a defense secretary that went AWOL for 2 weeks and no one noticed....and of course, we all remember this dynamo of a dream team don't we?

What are his qualifications?

He's a weekend news anchor and was a weekend warrior …

Chris Miller WAS SecDef, former CAG.

Bridge Colby is an extremely smart foreign policy guy who knows the building and WROTE the 2018 NDS.

Explain to me why these qualifications are somehow less than weekend news anchor.

it is insane, and that's the point. maga has a bad case of oppositional defiant disorder, so anything the adults in the room would consider bad is actually good precisely because the adults think it's bad.

Sure. I'm not saying those former SECDEFs did well. I hope you aren't inferring that he should pick similar this time around. I also don't think it's quite as binary as you present. There is a wide range of people with qualifications worthy of consideration. And I'm sure Trump has taken that into account.
